WB5 killed by NIS 2k6

Installed WB5 and everything was great. Last night, i updated Norton Internet Security 2006, and upon reboot, i find that WB5 was died. The taskbar is gone, there are no skins at all, everything runs sluggish. I tried Sys retores, and then i tried restoring a HardDrive image from a couple of days back, but that didn't help....Which is really bizzare. Any ideas?

Note: I think I posted this somewhere else, but I can't find it..sorry

At this point, I would recommend restoring the default XP theme > uninstall WB5 > reboot > reinstall WB5.

Norton is notorious for including even the kitchen sink, and setting just about all features in a prohibitive mode in the name of security.

This is why many programs, including Microsoft, recommend deactivating any Anti-Virus programs upon installation.

I would recommend attempting to reinstall WB5 with Norton loaded, but pay close attention to any messages that may pop-up during installation.

Note - since I am "old school", I tend to restore Windows to the default XP theme including all icons when doing any type of update other than a windows update, or Anti-Virus definition update.

Blow up the Symantec building. Let them try to repair everything like we have to do to our CPUs after installing their software. Freakin Norton!

BTW, WB5 loaded and operated without problems when I installed it AFTER I installed Norton. Had no trouble.

Haha, I actually like Norton's products Call me strange, but what can I say?

I've tried countless reinstalls , so I think that this might not be the problem.

I"ll try again tho....Any ideas when the Wb5 update comes out and you figure it might fix issues like this?

Any ideas when the Wb5 update comes out and you figure it might fix issues like this?

If the issue is on the WB5 side, any fix would be after a successful reproduction of the issue.

If the fault lies with Norton, you may be waiting a long time for Symantec to take action.

Note - if WindowBlinds was working before, as you indicated, and stopped working after installing some updates from Symantec - you may want to research what the updates were, and figure out what would conflict with allowing WindowBlinds to skin the GUI.

With your comment indicating skins are now gone - some action taken has deleted them, or hidden them. If it was not you attempting to remove them using WB Config - and something going sideways here, the fault would seem to lie with Norton messing with the files. Again, this would be a Norton/Symantec issue - not a Stardock issue.

yeah i use to use norton products bloatware & resource hogs i now am beta testing windows live onecare & im really liking it alot but when i had norton 2006 installed on my machine i never had problems with stardock

It installed something to flag spyware and an AV update, and somthing else. I would agree that it must have nuked a file. I've set it to not use the Spyware update, and will reinstall when I have the balls Thanks, If anyone else has any ideas, let me know

Hmm, w/e, it works now. bizzare, something in the spyware did it, as i told it to ignore Wb5...thanks!
