SDMCP.exe

OK, I really like to make sure I'm running as few processes as possible in the task manager, so when I saw SDMCP.exe, I found that it was from ObjectDock. Upon ending the process, there were no ill effects. My question is though, is there a way to make OD+ load up on startup without SDMCP.exe loading as well? Cuz it sounds kinda pointless having a process that does nothing but take up memory. Sorry if nobody understands what I'm saying, I'll explain it in more detail if need be.

If you want to have a tab for the systray you need it. Otherwise . . you are fine to not load it.

SDMCP.exe is required for the systray function in Stardock apps. If you're not using the systray in any of the Stardock apps you may be running, then you can disable it with ill effects.

If you use Stardock Central, open it, and go to Tools > Settings > General > uncheck "Enable MCP notification area support"
I don't think you need to disable the MCP SamrtStartup, but not entirely sure.

If you don't use Stardock Central, you can probably browse your startup folder(s), and remove sdmcp.exe.

Thanks guys. I don't use the systray, so I'm fine without it, but still can't find where to disable it. Which file should I delete? I don't want to go in and delete an important file by mistake...

No doubt!

The actual file (the one you should not delete) is in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock" folder.

If you do not have Stardock Central installed, you will either have a shortcut to the "sdmcp.exe" file created in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup" folder, or in "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Start Menu\Programs\Startup" folder.

The shortcut is the correct file to delete.

If you have Stardock Central installed, then do as Koasati indicated by "Starting Stardock Central > Tools > Settings > deselect both "Enable MCP notification area support" and "Enable MCP SmartStartup", and then click OK > reboot computer.

That should do it.

I run three docks (1 tabbed, 1 normal, 1 for the Recycle Bin) and have both the options disabled as indicated above with no issues at all.

Thanks for the help Corky, but when I checked the folders you told me about, I found nothing, only a shortcut to the actual objectdock (which I want). I even went so far as to do a search for all files named "sdmcp.exe", and it only came up with the actual file and no shortcuts to it. And I don't have Stardock Central, so I can't disable it the easy way

I believe this is why the "sdmcp.exe" is loading.

You can set ObjectDock to load at startup in the Dock Settings > General Catagory > "Load ObjectDock at startup" option - this is in ObjectDock Plus.

For the free version, it is found on the lower left of the Dock Settings dialog under any tab.

Using the option in the Dock Settings as opposed to using a Startup folder shortcut, should solve the issue.

so i removed this file during a DX2 uninstall and now (as stated above) i cannot display my systray dock. Re-installing OD+ and SDCentral did not restore this file, can anyone email me the file?

I don't have a computer at work with this file. where in the f... do I get it from?

I have had it working, but then I had to reinstall my computer and now I don't get any 'sdmcp.exe'. I have both Object Desktop AND Object Dock PLUS, but I don't get the file even after a reinstallation.

Why is this a problem? Isn't it a kind of standard installation or what?

Now I reinstalled the SDC - but didn't get any 'SDMCP.EXE' at my harddisk at all! Then I had to open an old PowerQuest Image-file and restored this file - actually the full contents of the folder C:\Programmer\Fælles filer\Stardock (Yes - so it is called in a danish version of Windows 2000

- could it by the way be THE problem?) - with this restore I also got the 'Trayserver.exe'.

Then I DID enable both 'MCP notification area support' AND 'MCP SmartStart'. Of Course I rebooted, and in Taskmanager I CAN see both files 'SDMCP.EXE' and 'Trayserver.exe' are running

... BUT STILL NO SYSTEMTRAY in my OD+
