SDMCP.EXE

What happens if I delete it?

Can someone tell me what exactly this process does? I have DesktopX, Windowblinds, and IconPackager installed, and when I kill the SDMCP.EXE process in the task manager I don't notice any adverse effects... so can it be disabled altogether?

If not, why?

If so, how?

SDMCP.exe is a part of Stardock Central and is needed to make things like the system-tray in ObjectDock and DesktopX work.

If you don't use the System-tray in OD or DesktopX or if you only use widgets with DesktopX you can open StardockCentral > Tools > Settings > and untick "Enable MCP smart startup". SDMCP will then not be called on startup, but you might find you have trouble with some of the DesktopX features.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not familiar with StardockCentral, but assume that it's a component of either DesktopX, WindowBlinds, or IconPackager. The problem is, I can't seem to find a 'StardockCentral' shortcut in the start menu nor is it listed in add/remove programs. Could you maybe give me the default installation path, or tell me how I might access it to disable the 'MCP smart startup' option?

StardockCentral is a program used to download and update all Stardock products. Since you don't have StardockCentral installed I assume you are not an ObjectDesktop subscriber and you are using the free version of the programs.

This means that sdmcp.exe was most likely installed with DesktopX (as I said it is needed for certain feautures of DesktopX). I would therefore recommend leaving it as it is (unless you want to uninstall DesktopX) since you could run into problems with DesktopX if you would just remove it.

Another way would be to download StardockCentral https://www.stardock.com/products/sdcentral/ , install it and then change the settings as described above. Note: if you do that I would recommend to keep StardockCentral (e.g. do not uninstall it), otherwise you can't undo this action if you should run into problems with DesktopX.
