Switching between themes..altering properties

...a better way to change theme properties?

Hello,

As I experiment with Desktop X, purely as a user not a developer, I am switching between themes to get a feeling for what I like.
The problem with doing this is that once I have modified one theme (modified means that I have updated the links to point to programs that are relevant for me) and get it where I like it and can use it, I switch to another theme and have to set all these links up again. This just takes too much time.

Is there some way I can save info from one and import it into another? I would typically just want to bring in the path to the programs I work with.

Any suggestion on this or do I just continue to edit the properties individually each time I switch?

you can do this type of thing when setting up Litestep themes...basically an .ini type file should do the trick. You could set variables to read from the list for specific types of things, like the graphics program, browser, email, that type of thing. Tiggs or Martin would be the ones to comment on this though. I was sort of hoping that the DX Standards thing which was started up a little while ago would tackle this issue, but I haven't heard too much from those folks lately.

Thanks for the reply Mr werewolf. From you post it doesn't sound like I'm missing anything immediately obvious. I'll hold out and hopefully someone else will respond.

The DeesktopX interface was called CUI (Common User interface?). What a brilliant idea. I rembember reading about it and have searched for the documentation (joeuser? off-line) but can't find it.
I believe it was concieved to write your custom settings into the registry in a common format so all widgets could apply those settings.
I am starting to build my own objects (imperfectly because I have no artistic ability and no scripting skills) so anything I could leverage would be a good thing.
