Aesthetics - Symbolology

K a quick one here.Which symbol do you find most challenging/perfect in an aesthetical way?I mean which symbol would you choose to create a wall on and what is the story behind the symbol?I'd love to do a wall on swastiga,not for its Nazi story but as a symbol of earlier christianity.It's a shame symbols like that,which i find aesthetically challenging and perfect to be transformed to symbols of hate.

Hi Cyberworld... i would agree with you totally if the sign of swastiga was designed differently.... you know...take a look at the lines of swastiga and you will see a cross which is tranformed and broken at its ends...the sign of cross is exactly like the figure of a man standing with his arms wide open...this is our Christ, our Saviour standing with His arms wide open to accept in His arms all repented and wounded people of humanity...
I would not say that a swastiga can represent something christian... i know this is a very very ancient sign that someone can meet in ancient India and it also has a place in Masonic symbols and Theosophistic ideas....anyway this sign gives me the creeps and i would not want it near me....but ...i quess this is only my opinion...have a nice dayyyy

"The word "swastika" comes from the Sanskrit svastika - "su" meaning "good," "asti" meaning "to be," and "ka" as a suffix."

The word Swastika is normally believed to be an amalgam of the words Su and Asati. Su means 'good' and Asati meant 'to exist'.

As per Sanskrit grammer the words Su and Asati when amalgamated into one word become Swasti (as in the case of Su and Aaatam becoming Swagatam meaning welcome). If this derivation of the word Swastika is true, then the literal meaning of the term Swastika would be 'let good-prevail'.

Ironically this suggests that a recent proposal to make the Swastika illegal throughout Europe, is potentially in itself, an act of cultural oppression to the Hindu community amongst others.

In direct response to Cyberworlds question, I prefer mathematical imagery/symbols.

To answer your question, Cyberworld; the Triquetra (Latin?). Trinity symbol of three arcs that combine to make one image. In japanese the term "sanju no enko" means three fold arc. Interesting enough, enko also means person in addition to arc. I believe that the triquetra is on every version of the NEW KING JAMES Bible.

Thank you all for the thorough information on the symbol.Especially Citizen The Journeyman for the link,it's quite a story actually of how something good is turned to evil...

Hey SD,i'd like to see the Triquetra in one of your walls. It is a challenging symbol i must say,i think it's the same one used by Free Masons and the Illuminati. An emblem with no end and no begin,drawn with a circle in many cases.Don't know the difference with or without the circle though...

Anw have fun guys and hope to see some symbols in walls...i'll surely give it a shot...well to be frank not with the swastika,cause i know it WILL be misunderstood. I'll cook something quick,stay alert,symbolology is my new hobby

It's a shame that the swastika has become a symbol of evil. All the way up until the Nazi's used it it's been a symbol of good. I'm at the same time worried about new-nazis and nationalists that tend to use norse mythology and symbols for their cause. That really annoys me and makes me angry as I do not want it to be accosiated with such.

On a sidenote: I'd say that the Nazi flag is quite a good design. The swastika on a white circle on the red background is very visually powerful. ...or it could be that the history around it is so powerful that it affect my ability to make an objective observation.

In Oz the issue is with the BLF using the Eureka flag......when the BLF is a bunch of knuckle-dragging thugs....
