Rechargeable batteries

Was just wondering if rechargeable batteries retain there charge or not if your not going to use them right away? I asked them at energizer but they still haven't gotten back to me yet, so in the meantime
I thought I'd check with you guys or gals . Thanks, Richard

nicad won't. least the ones I've gotten won't. dunno bout the newer rechargables

I use nickel metal hydride, exclusively. I use them for my flashlights, camera and mouse. I have about 8 sets, that I swap in and out, with batteries almost always sitting in the charger.

Most bang for the buck, for sure. I think Consumer Reports just did a cost evaluation on batteries a few issues ago. NiMH don't last as long as alkaline, but it doesn't matter. You can recharge them around 500 times, so that's what makes them so cost effective. Not including the charger, however.

A great online site for batteries, chargers, etc. is www.thomas-distributing.com. That's where I get mine.

all batteries leak-off energy eventually some faster than others, and due to different conditions such as heat and cold

rechargeables can "age" and ability to hold charge and amount gets less and less, evenally it's useless.

And worse rechargeable killer is overcharging. Make sure to get "smart" recharger that turns off when batteries is full.

If you can afford it, get the new Lithium Ion rechargable batties. Li-ion far out does Ni-cad or NM-hydride batteries but they can be spendy.

I think they do, If not, they are working on it. I can't see why they would just have li-on for cell phones and not everything else.

If they do not have Li-ion AA's then I agree with ohters and go with Nickel Metal Hydide batteries.

The thing I like best about the Lithium-Ion batteries is that they do not retain a memory. Ni-Cads retain a memory. If you charge them up, then re-charge before they are depleted, then do that time after time, they will no longer hold a charge for longer than the period you have conditioned them to. Nickel Metal Hydride are better at that than the Ni-Cads, but the Li-Ion can be charged at any time without worry of developing the memory.
My notebook, PDA, & Cell Phone all have Li-Ion batteries. I wouldn't use anything else. That is until they develop something better.

they have something better now: lithium polymer (spelling)

And if I remember right, Nickel Metal hydride dosen't have the memory issues either.

store them in the refrigerator and they'll retain their charge for a much longer period of time. all electronics and most storage cells (car batterys are an exception, i believe, because they use liquid acid to retain a charge) work better in the cold. it all comes down to atoms.

just make sure you drain them as much as possible or you can screw up the charge.

Cordless Power Tool Batteries are some thing you also want to make sure to drain. If not they end up holding a weak charge and the life cts short on em...

with Nickel Metal Hydride batteries you do not have to worry about that IP. They hold no memory and can be charged whenever just like Lithium Ion.

I use rechargeable in my cameras.  I use mainly Promaster because they are a more powerful battery.  My charger is a trickle charger, so it keeps the batteries always completely charged.  I even have a fast charger to use in my car (which is pretty good).  I also have an energizer charger (for multiple sizes, the Promaster is just for AA) and it trickle charges, too, so I assume most of the newer ones do.

I'd go broke if it weren't for rechargeable batteries.....

There are also critters called Rechargeable Alkaline.....which are quite cost efficient...brandname in Oz is 'Grandcell'...and I don't believe they have a memory effect, either...

You must take alot of pictures Karma.

My Fuji S2 Pro camera uses four for the camera and another 4 for the sunpak flash I use on it.  Some of us do more with a camera than taking "snapshots" http://www.angelamarshall.com

I like the pictures of the dogs, as we have a shepard as well. But the pictures are outstanding.
