Option to Resize the Taskbar, like in Win10?

I was really hoping that Microsoft would add resizing the taskbar back into Win11. I used it in Win10 to adjust my taskbar to two rows. But, as with many other things, Microsoft just removed the ability and doesn't appear to be in a hurry to add it back.

I am not talking about changing icon sizes. I'm talking about changing the number of rows in the taskbar itself.

Since Microsoft took that away, I was hoping I could regain that functionality with Start 11. Any chance this can be added in the future?

Hello,
Start11 already have this option available recently. Have you try V1.22 yet? If you already have that version install. You just need to turn on "Let Start11 enhance the taskbar". You than can drag and resize your taskbar to 2 or more icons rows.

Thank you, Basj. I just enabled that. However, I still cannot resize it and the option to unlock the taskbar is greyed out. I've done some searching for a solution, but the registry changes I've found so far don't seem to work.

 

Any ideas?

Once that enable, you should be able to do it just like when in Windows 10, click and drag the taskbar edge to size.

The option will be greyed if you have an autohide taskbar.

Thanks for the tip, but I turned off autohide and lock the taskbar is still greyed out.

Try restart Explorer after that.

Thanks everyone! Getting there but not quite. I restarted Explorer and now I can unlock the taskbar, and I get the double arrow to resize the taskbar, but nothing happens when I drag it up.

Do you have any other application installed that deal with Windows 11 Taskbar and Start panel? That might interfere with Start11 functions?

I had ExplorerPatcher (valinet/ExplorerPatcher ) installed, but had problems with it and uninstalled it and scoured the registry to remove anything remaining... Maybe I missed something.

 

I appreciate the help, but at this point, I am guessing something in the registry is not quite right... I may do a reset on this laptop, but not looking forward to it.

Explorer patcher did the same thing to me a while back. Here is the fix that worked for me (Credit goes to Neil)

Open regedit, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

Find TaskbarSizeMode and give it a value of 0 rather than 1.

Sign out and back in again.

Thanks Phoenix I'll give that a try, but do you mean TaskbarSizeMove? I don't have TaskbarSizeMode.

I am glad I could help.

In regards to auto hide. I believe that is normal behavior on windows 11. Windows 10 and 11 just have different taskbar behaviors.

As noted before, autohide taskbars are required to be one row high with Start11.

What really would be awesome is a way to change the size and by that I mean not like 1, 2, 3 or 4 rows of icons but a way to size up the taskbar while also resizing the icons. Let say like you can do in Nexus and their dock, there you can size it in pixels.

OK, I finally got the point that you have to turn off Windows autohide before any of the fancy stuff works.  After that I can resize at will by just grabbing the top of the bar.
