Please help about tcp/ip and packets..

Whats the problem when about 45% of packets sent are always lost ? And when You try to ping two servers with more than 3 pings, it goes like this:
Pinging [193.10.252.19] with 32 bytes ->bytes=32 time=25ms TTL=246
Pinging [193.10.252.19] with 32 bytes ->Request Timed Out
Pinging [193.10.252.19] with 32 bytes ->bytes=32 time=24ms TTL=246
Pinging [198.4.4.40] with 32 bytes ->IcmpSendEcho(): 0
Pinging [198.4.4.40] with 32 bytes ->Request Timed Out
Pinging [198.4.4.40] with 32 bytes ->IcmpSendEcho(): 0
CAN IT BE SOME KIND OF DNS OR MY ISP PROBLEMS OR IT'S JUST MINE PC ?

If you ask me, this just means you either have a sucky connection or the servers you are trying to connect to are crud. I'd go talk to my ISP if I were you. Or you could try pinging some "well known servers" (like: ping google.com) first and see what that results in.

Time To Live is set to 246

your error

This could be a number of things, one of which is a script run on an ISA that filters/or refuses Ping Requests.

Thanks for the help, but I phoned my ISP and they said that they'll look the line. It's very likely that the line is damaged.

Did they run a noise test with you on the line?

Ouch, it could just be that it needs a filter placed in the can outside, cross talk in the CAN (where the phone line punch blocks are located) can really be a pain in the butt also.

You may try running a DSL speed test if your download speed is concerning you. Try have a lot of programs and tests to optimize your connection and do things like check for line noise. But, if you are using a dial up connection its basically useless.

Make sure that you have the latest drivers for your NIC. I would also swap the NIC with another card if you have access to one. I always paid the price when I bought cheap NICs.

Microsoft PCMCIA Notebook adapter MN-120

Paid around 50 bucks and the damn thing does not work in Linux! So no internet in Linux so I am stuck in Windows 98 land!

and also what Kernal?


do not understand IP...clarify?

i can not run it under Linux...no driver but yes I would like to.

Hey, I found out the thing. My isp corrected the errors in my telephone line. There were too much noises in line. (yes, i have adsl) thanks.
