Decompression error 2026 when downloading Cursorfx

Hi !

Each time I try to download Cursorfx, I have this window: decompression error 2026. Unknown decompression error.

I am on Windows 10, latest update. I had Cursorfx before, but after that update in October, I found out that all my cursors had disappeared, and even those in my downloads were dead, I couldn't change cursors. 

Can anyone help ? Thanks.

Hello !

 

This didn't help at all, so today I decided to buy a "fresh" Cursorfx, same mess: decompression error 2026 !

I'm able to download cursors from Wincustomize, but that doesn't help either. See my new post.

Hello,

May we know if you direct download from your account. Did the download get to 100%? and what browser you are using? I did download tried downloading it yesterday. And it get download without problem.

Note : and also let us know your AV (Anti virus).

Hi !

Yes, I downloaded today my new Cursorfx Plus from my account and paid with Paypal. 

The download went normally, 100%. It is when I click "run" that the problems begin. It is supposed to be installed on c:\Program Files (86), but after 2 or 3 seconds it stops and that window with the error message comes up. I must say that I removed the "old" Cursorfx with Programs & Features, it disappeared from Programs & features  but I can still see some old dll files on Program Files (86) along with other crap. I wonder if the new Cursorfx wouldn't have problems with the remains of the old one !

I use Chrome, Firefox, Edge and IE11, same problem with each !!

A few months ago, I got "Start 10" for my windows 10 laptop, I had no problem with the download and installation, 100% perfect and simple.

Regarding anti virus, I don't have any fancy "suites" right now, I have Windows Defender Security Center + Malwarebytes which runs a daily scan. Nothing is ever detected.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

This is a documented error:

That seems to have at least 3 known causes:

  • Antivirus
  • Corrupt Download (not the same as 'install')
  • PC language

The first thing I would like you to try:

Make sure no CursorFX folder appears in Add/Remove:

Make certain no CursorFX folder / files appear here, if they do, manually delete them:
\Program Files (x86)\Stardock

Next, temporarily disable Windows Defender:

Downlaod this version of CursorFX and try to install it:
https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/CursorFX_2.16_setup_sd.exe

Hello Sean,

Bravo, you gave me a very good hint: disabling Windows Defender! Well, on my version (1809) of Windows 10, it's called "Windows Security". I didn't want to disable the whole thing, so I was somewhat hesitant, but then I checked my notifications, there was one saying that Windows Security had blocked Cursorfx because it could bring changes to my folders, etc, and it even gave me the path to follow. I had to disable only "controlled folder access".

Windows Security>Virus & Threat Protection>Virus & Threat Protection Settings>Controlled Folder Access>Manage Controlled Folder Access>OFF

I then used the download I had had previously, redownloaded Cursorfx Plus (I had paid for the "plus", had received a licence number, but I was never offered a grid where to write that licence number, not even the second time), anyway the installation went like a charm, no more errors, and I now have cursorfx functioning perfectly as before.

I don't care too much if it's not "plus", I think the difference is minimal.

So, you + the notification solved my problem !

Thanks for your help ! Ithink that this Windows Security combined with a daily scan by Malwarebytes Pro is just as good as any anti-virus or "security suite" !

Ahhh yes, 

controlled folder access = no folder access   

We have seen it cause issues with our game installs sometimes as well.
