I found out in the Penal code that it is illigal to have intercourse with anyone you are not married too.

YES it is true. I couldn't believe it. (This is New York State by the way)

When I get my personal copy of the the laws I will post the law number (I belive it is at the beginning of 130.00)

Totally AMAZING!!!!!!

One top of that I didn't know you can get a ticket (or arrested) for being in a car that is to high off the road. (Vehical hieght)

Actually, both of those are pretty well known in my family. *s*

Adultry, it's not so much taht it's legal, just that there is no reason (other than moral/religious) for it to be not legal.

And the car thing, way back in the 70's, my father almost lost his liscence for that.

I saw a site a while back with a whole bunch of strange laws listed on it. Most of them were in southern states though. I'll have to see if I can find the link again *s*

The is a law in Canada (I don't know about anywhere else) saying that you're not allowed in public with less than a certain amount of money on you (I think it's something like 5$). Apparently it's law they used to arrest hobboes and beggars.
Also, you are not allowed to gather in a public place as a group of more than 5 people without a permit. It's called illegal assembly or something like that. They use that to disperse the crowd in manifestations.

Of course those are some of the laws that are very unknown and rarely applied, other than when they need a reason to arrest somebody.

There's an old law in London that's actually never been changed, it goes back to the pre-car days, and it states that all hackneys (Taxis) must carry a bale of hay in their rear compartment.
Of course being related to the old horse-drawn cabs, the law is still actually legal, technically.

In Globe, AZ, it is illegal to play cards in the street with a Native American.

Does that mean that it is perfectly legal to play cards with a Euro-American, Afro-American, Asian-American, or (insert racial prefix here)-American person in the street.

In Ventura County,CA, cats and dogs are not allowed to have sex without a permit.

In Hartford,CT, it is illegal to educate a dog.

I can understand that one. Naturally, dogs are much more intelligent than humans. Surely, if we allow them to aquire knowledge they would band together, overthrow all governments of the world and become one giant superpower while herding all humans to one remote island which they would then destroy.

The only acceptable sexual position in Washington D.C. is the missionary-style position.

Of course. If politicians were allowed to take the few extra seconds required to assume other positions, the 5 minutes a year that they actually spend doing what they were elected to do would be reduced to 45 seconds.

in Thailand it's illegal to throw money on the ground. The king's image is on a lot of coins, and is watermarked into a lot of paper bills. you can get into deep serious over this one. if you fight with a cabby, don't throw the money at his feet!

Also, did you know that if your ignorant oif the law they do not care and can still give you a ticket (or sentence)?

Cars are suppossed to be a certain height of the road. Don't drive a Poshe in NYC because you can be pulled over.

Can't stop a mail truck EVER for not a minute nor can they get ticket going thru red lights.

It’s really not that hard to believe if you look at the basis of most laws. The foundation of most original laws began on a religious belief of some sort. So knowing that the Bible considers adultery to be a sin, along with stealing and murder its really not that hard to believe. Its just that today’s society has change dramatically in the last century where the majority of the people now consider non-marital sexual relations to be acceptable.

If you would have brought this topic up 50 years ago I believe that you would have found many people to be aware of that law. Michigan also has a similar law but it is really only used in statutory rape cases when the two parties where having consensual sex.

aware of that law... and knowingly breaking it? 50 years ago I am sure there were many who had there 'fun'.

and on top of that, this piticular code is in the sexual deviants area along with insest, rape, sodome and other more obviously criminal activities. but 2 consenting adult partners having intercourse seems a little more on the private side.

true, T-Man, but the strong majority of people i've queried say that it's much more acceptable if it's someone else's family members who are thus involved, and not really acceptable if it's their own children doing it. we have another double standard. "in my community - yes. in my family - no."

Paxx...the vagrancy act refers to having sufficient money to make it to your house of residence...else you are a 'vagrant'.

It is an offence to be unable to, or refuse to stable a visitor's horse [if you are a publican].

In a two-way street, parking facing the wrong direction [for that side] is deemed to be parking too far away from the near-side kerb....in this case, the OTHER one..

In Florida it's illegal if your dog takes a dump on the street/sidewalk and you don't pick it up! ... I'd be doing a life sentence by now!

Up until 1986, in Georgia you could beat you son with a Carriage Whip as punishment and if he happened to die durring or after it because of it, it was acceptable. You where not sparing the rod and you did not intend to kill him.

in Singapore, any littering whatsoever can land you in jail for several days and get you a $500.00 fine. even just the wrapper off a stick of gum is enough to get you zapped. and the populace helps the police enforce this law.
