For quite some time I've had the problem where the Fences would expand and contract on a delay. Even hovering over icons on the desktop would be delayed, and clicking to open an application would be delayed, sometimes by 5-10 seconds...

Although this has improved with newer releases of Fences, the problem was still very noticeable and frustrating.

I finally found a solution (at least for me) that makes the Fences and icons respond as they should. Without Fences installed, I don't have the problem at all - so I am assuming the issue is how Fences works with certain Windows appearance items enabled....

You can see if this works for you - there's several ways to get to System Properties - here's how I do it:

1) Go to Control Panel

2) Go to System and Security

3) Go to System (or just go to System Information)

4) In the "Computer Name, domain and workgroup" area, click "change settings"

5) You get a dialog popup with tabs - click ADVANCED

6) In the Performance area, click SETTINGS

7) My laptop by default was set to "Let Windows choose what's best for my computer", but I changed this to "Adjust for best performance" - which unchecks all those visual drop shadow options, etc...

Doing this I noticed an immediate change to how responsive Fences were, and the desktop icons.

I don't have a lame laptop either - it's an Alienware gaming laptop with some serious power, but for some reason, I was one of the few who had ongoing issues with Fences and this fix seems to have solved it.
