I am not blaming Stardock software for my problems. I believe it's Microsoft pushing out incompatible updates. As it's the main OS I use, I need it to work.. I feel my days as a Windows user is coming to an end. I run various spins of Fedora on other systems, and may need to sidegrade to Linux here as well. I am an unhappy Windows 10 user.
I feel your pain... OSes and software used to be my main hobby. A way to relax, but also to learn and discover new things. I never watch TV or play games, I don't have the patience.
Windows 10 was never my cup of tea. Unfortunately most Linux distros are junk these days. I'm using an older version of Linux right now and there is no way I can upgrade to something newer without losing something: customization, stability, performance or ease of use. Some modern Linux distros can't even hold a stable Ethernet connection!
In that light Windows 10 is good, because no problem with Ethernet. Losing Ethernet connection just makes me furious, because that should never happen unless it's the fault of the ISP.
So I can't recommend Linux to anyone these days, unless you go with a smaller distro and make it your hobby. I was thinking about what to give my dad after Windows 7 bites the dust. I think Windows 7 was the best OS ever made, but for a fresh install Windows 7 feels a bit old. After consideration I came to the conclusion that Windows 10 with some form of "managed updates" is the best choice.
Heck, the way the OS landscape currently looks I might transition to Windows 10 myself when my current Windows 7 and Linux OSes are out of support.
If Fedora works for you, then great. I have zero trust in Red Hat, they built desktop Linux and then destroyed it and took everyone with them in the fall by pushing their new bs tech everywhere. Unless you go with a smaller distro and select your own components I don't think you can have Linux stability anymore.
I even tried FreeBSD and it gave me the "Commodore Amiga" vibe which was great. It may offer better stability but performance is worse and it's too far out in the technological periphery for serious desktop usage.
Then there is the Mac, but I have never ventured that far... giving money to Apple just feels wrong.
PS I can recommend dual-booting. If Windows annoys you, boot into Linux. If Linux annoys you, boot into Windows. I have solved Linux problems from Windows and Windows problems from Linux. At this time I don't think you can find a sane OS.
