Grid computing

I've recently started processing protein work units for cancer research using a grid computing 'agent'. Do any of you have experience with this (other than the Seti@home) type of project? Just wondering what our community thinks the benefits/pitfalls are.

well at least they seem to be up front, I seem to remember thing not to long a go about soft ware that hooked you in to stuff like that if you did not read their policy before you agreed

If it's for a good cause like cancer reasearch, I wouldn't mind donating some of my system's brains. Brilliant Digital on the other hand (Kazaa's hijackware) wasn't quite so welcome. Bammo!

Nope, a horrible mess. But at least the network of people is large enough that you're not limited to the newest Eminem album when you go looking for music.

Kazaa's hijackware would lend your processing power, drive space and bandwidth to their own ad-serving network. So -you're- the one actually sending out those blasted popups.

The Cancer thing is real by what I know.. I've used it for a good while. But haven't DLed it since I redid my computer. I have a group and stuff on there called WAO if you wanted to check it out. I've got several news letters and they've gotten through like 3 projects since I started. They keep getting more and more done each month.
