I think this would make the best Deskscape ever!  Source code is already provided (click on the word Earth, then About).  While some of the settings could be placed in the traditional Deskscape settings area, others (like rotating the globe, etc.) could be provided by a desktop widget or hotspot, yes?

Note that this is realtime data (combined via computational models) updated every few hours to every few days (depending on the data).

Clicking on the word Earth in the corner allows you to change what you see, etc. and read up on what this is doing and how.

Is there any way this could become a desktop background via Deskscapes?

I, and I suspect many others, would gladly pay for this one.
