Problem with Norton Firewall and Wincustomize anyone?

I'm having problems browsing the site if I decide to log on.
I've made my e-mail address private ( with Privacy control on norton firewall ) and when a page loads from wincustomize every picture loaded tries to send back the e-mail address, so I get 150+ popups from norton to permit or block the info ( and the default action is to block the info ). I've tried to bypass that by entering wincustomize to trusted sites but didn't work.

Does anyone have any solution to this? ( I know of course the obvious one.... delete the info from privacy control )

I've also noticed that by blocking the e-mail to be sent the pages load fine.... so why the site request it?

It is my understanding that Norton sits between you and the site you are visiting. It listens for certain things to be transfered. When you login here, you do it with your email address, and I would assume that the cookie that this site sets contains your email address as well.

Since you have told Norton not to share it with anyone, it is freaking out everytime it catches this site using the email to log you in, read the cookie, etc. You are trying to share something that you told it not to. See?

An example is, I was once trying to sign up for something on the internet, I forget what, but it was important enough for me to call tech support. Every single stinking time I submitted the form, it came back saying my email address was invalid. After *two* harrowing hours I realized that the garbage-eatin Norton Firewall was sending asterisks in place of the email because I had told them to 'protect it'.

You would just about have to tell it not to protect your email, unless there is some way to omit certain sites in the preferences. I hated Norton, it didn't stay on my machine another month.

I agree bakerstreet. It also slowed the dounload's to a crawl and I do mean crawl. It's gone now. No more norton.

I love Norton products, they work just fine for me in every way. You just have to be a little careful in how you configure them. By going to their FAQ site you can find the answer to just about any problem that may crop up. Hope you figure things out mpapad!

Well, I suggest you remove that email protection option. If you want email privacy, it's just as simple to give a fake email or a hotmail address on the sites requesting an email.

Installed SW2002 and never had a problem with anything, kind of install & forget about. I've been using Norton since 1984. However since P.Nortons' sellout to Symantec the programs have gone a bit downhill. Less quality and more flash. However until 11-15-2002 I didn't know what type CPU I had. Just following the herd.

However, let me say this, the firewall usually asks if a certain program can access the web and gives its' master several types of options to consider. Permit, block, single access, and some more I can't think of at the moment.

The problem with e-mail filtering is that you can't say which site is to be filtered or not. As many sites open popups, and many popups just steal your e-mail address I have to be very carefull ( spam is something that I don't like ).

Norton Firewall 2002 had privacy control too, Old crab. You just have to turn it on...
put some info to protect ( lets say your e-mail address ) and come to wincustomise to see what I mean...

I use Norton 2002 stuff without any problem. The only thing I have to do is disable the firewall temporarily to login to Deviantart, but that's all.

This last week I've had a couple of e-mails with bugbear in them - where would I be without AV...

Fuzzy, if you put Deviantart into your trusted zone under Internet Properties\Privacy\Edit the firewall will leave you alone! Tell it to always allow cookies from DA.

Jammeister: No, the virus was *on* your computer, it just wasn't executed. Firewalls have nothing to do with an antivirus. Norton's anitvirus is a completely separate app. It's very good, but their firewall is more annoying than necessary, and force you to be less secure if you don't want to be warned to death.

The free version of Zone Alarm is easily good enough. A hardware router fills in the gaps that any software firewall can't. The combination of the two is about all you would ever need. GRC ( http://www.grc.com/ ) has plenty of information on software firewalls. IMHO, and in the opinion of many others more knowledgable than me, there is no reason to tolerate NIS.

Many people use NIS just to block popups, which is like using a cannon to hunt for squirrel. There are other apps for that; there is no reason to waste dozens of megs of ram to block ads and pop-ups.
