It is 'Update Tuesday' tomorrow so we get to play with 8.1 Update 1 tomorrow. Should be fun.
By the way, VLC Player is up on the Microsoft Apps Store.
Hmmm, all is good on my main machine [desktop], but on my ASUS laptop I cannot access the Store for some strange reason... everytime I click on the Store tile I get taken back to the Metro UI. I think it may have something to with with my account as it was a store demo I picked up cheap and the store account still shows up in Administrator listings. Although I am listed as an administrator, I think that I shall just reformat it and start from scratch to save the bother of trying to delete a [now] non-existent administrator, which may cause complications.
