I got this in an e-mail and it comes from a good source. And as I don't have any one in my address book I thought I would post it here.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO OTHERS. FOR THOSE THAT DON'T
KNOW, "WTC" STANDS FOR THE WORLD TRADE CENTER......WHICH MAKES THIS
VIRUS REALLY DANGEROUS BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL
OPEN IT RIGHT AWAY.....THINKING ITS A STORY RELATING TO 9/11
BIGGGG TROUBLE !!!! DO NOT OPEN "WTC Survivor" It is a virus that
will erase your whole "C" drive. It will come to you in the form of an
E-Mail from a familiar person!! If you open it you will not beable to
even start your computer! Forward this to everyone in your
address book. So if you receive an email called "WTC Survivor" do NOT open it !!
Delete it right away! This virus removes all dynamic link libraries
(.dll files) from your computer

hrm. One would have to have a pretty sorry virus checker for it to allow that kind of activity, though.

Virii are usually built to spread these days. Kind of like AIDS versus Ebola. If it kills you quick, then it doesn't spread as well. If someone did develop a virus like this, they were old-school, or didn't think it through very well. I'll be interested to see if it is a hoax or not. When will people stop opening attatchments? I wouldn't open an attatchment from *anyone*, ever, unless the told me they were sending it beforehand.

since Internet popularization, there's sended a lot of e-mails/messages like this. I think that this kind of messages are promoted by antivirus developers, or by computers 'jokers' (or 'lamers').
Why i believe this?
1.- I never 'contaminated' by 'papajam/w32-c' or 'skinnerskarma.exe' virus (these are imaginary name of virus that you can receive an advice).
2.- I never received an advise of 'Nimda', 'Sircam' and 'Klez' viruses, but i received more dozens (or hundreds) of mails contaminated with these viruses.

If i don't believe on this kind of messages, don't mean that my 'Windoze' computer can be easy contaminated, and i'ts VERY REALLY IMPORTANT that any Blindows user need a hard ANTIVIRUS.

Must be a day for HOAX. This is the third one I seen today. This virus threat is a hoax and you can read about it at http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/wtc.htm
Please bookmark that site and verify anything sent via E-mail before scaring anyone needlessly.

i bet this email warning itself contained the virus. besides it sounds to fake. earasing whole hard drive? destroying all dlls? that had to happen with your eyes closed.

When you get an email telling you to forward it to others or everyone you know, that's a clue that it's probably a hoax.

If it's an email claiming there's a new virus on the loose that'll eat your hd, etc., check with a reputable antivirus site like symantec, for example, which keeps track of real viruses and hoaxes as well. In general, snopes.com is a good hoax debunking site (Sally provided a link to it above).

Yes the thought is what really counts. Most ppl are savy enough to be cautious but it is always better safe than sorry.

Surfing the 'net without a virus checker is kinda like driving a car while blindfolded. If you get in a wreck, it's your own fault.
