Skinstudio Problem

So I finally updated to the latest skinstudio 7.3. Just opened it to make a new skin as I usually do. Named the skin and clicked Ok. Added a couple things and opened it again. Gives me the option to choose one of three sub styles 7 - vista - XP and also called Diamond. Never had this problem before as as it was always called the name of my skin. now all the sub styles are Called Diamone. When I put in a graphic it is in my skin name.

Is this something new with the latest update. If so how do I change this to my skin name. Liked it much better when I added the graphics I wished to.

Change the name of the main substyle and delete the others. That's what I do.

Having the substyles in there already is pointless, IMO. I'd rather make the skin and THEN add my own substyles, it saves a lot of work that way.

Thanks Cyn. Think I'm going to delete SS and install the previous version. Would rather put in my own graphics and code thne all the stuff that's in this. Not even necessary to make an expanded start menu the whay they have it so now you have to go around and delete code. Guess it would make it easier for someone that never made a skin but appears to be more work for me.

I totally agree. The first thing I have to do when starting a skin now is to go through it and delete a lot of code.......and why anyone would want to start a skin with 3 subbys is beyond me!

XP is becoming obsolete now Windows 7 is the way forward ^^

I agree however many still enjoy skinning all three OS's and that is fine. As I said earier and 2of3 replied in post #4 to do it correctly you need to delete the code and start with one OS. I do win 7 and vista. I solved the problem by uninstalling the latest version of SS and installing the previous version. Only thing I lose from that is anything added to maybe make it easier but to me it's worth using the previous version. To add so far it has only been myself and 2of3 that said something about this but I also know and have been in contact with others that they also delete the code before starting a new skain and find it a pain and extra work.

If a templete was to be included and only my opinion it should be for win7 and then I could add from there. Most new skinners and for that matter some older skinners are only skinning win 7 because that is all they have to test with. I'm done with the subject and with using the previous version all is fine here.

I still have the installation disk for XP SP2. Don't know if I'll ever use it again. But you never know.

I do too Uvah it's just I don't have a spare hard drive to install it on. I may just buy a 4gb usb drive and install it on that just to test blinds in the future

I won't mention that I raised this issue when 7.3 came out but none the less...

work around suggestions;

Use one of your previously designed blinds as a template for your new one. It would have settings that would probably be pertinent and usually show only those graphics that you would skin anyhow.

open the default blind, go through it eliminating substyles and extraneous graphics and save it as "default" blind. when you start on a new blind open the "default" and save it as something else.

If your computer supports boot up from a removable drive then yes . Most computers dual core and above support it.

Yay me! I got a dual core Pentium. Tomorrow I'll give it a shot. Imagine ... Windows on a stick. It should come in flavors. lol
