Yup. majorgeeks is a site I've visited many, many times over the years, and I've rarely been disappointed or have regretted my choices there. They 'road' test the hosted software and it is checked thoroughly for spyware and other nasties, so it is reliable and safe to use.
The site has sections for picks of the day, site news and one that I always check out 'Way Off Base', all updated daily.
I frequently check out the 'Off Base' section where useful software and hardware reviews can be found. Quite a few major contributors in the PC world are featured there and the news is always informative.
As for the 'Way Off Base' section, well I've learned a lot about Florida and its inhabitants from the regularly featured "Florida Friday". At least now I better understand when I watch CSI Miami, though I doubt that I'll ever understand that Miami Vice...
Crockett and Tubbs were a little on the strange side for me... and the movie remake was even more confusing.

Also, check the software offered, and if it works without "tool bars" which frequently come on "free" software.
I've found the larger software developers are often the culprits who add other developers toolbars and the like... well more-so than the smaller developers featured on majorgeeks. The thing with majorgeeks is that they tell you if the software comes with any add-ons or caveats, so usually you are well informed prior to installing anything.
What I'm getting to despise a lot lately is how many developers (Alwil comes to mind immediately here) have included Google toolbars and other products in their installers. While many warn you and provide opt outs, some do not, and that pisses me off severely... so much so that I wrote to one such dev and included a few expletives to show my disgust, plus my feelings toward Google. Again, it's usually larger developers who include Google crap... well the ones who have sold out to evil, that is.
Oh look, I've had another rant about Google. Doesn't take much to get me started, do it?
Oh heck, just trying to be neighborly.
Good onya, Philly.
