Long time to load ObjectDock

It takes a long time (30 sec.) to start Objecdock (in Windows 7 64Bit) after Windows start. With Windows Vista I don't have this problem.
Is there a solution?

I have noticed this too. A work around that doesn't bother me (too much) is to not load OD at startup. Instead, I run OD as soon as my computer starts up. My computer starts up faster, and OD starts up faster.

Except for having to click a couple extra times in order to open OD, it's a win-win situation.

You could use Keyboard Launchpad to run ObjectDock with a hotkey:

I use it every day. Is this plug? Absolutely.

Do you have any third party docklets installed? If it's taking over an hour to load, something is VERY wrong. At this point, I'd recommend deleting your settings under:

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock\ObjectDock(Plus)

Vista/7: C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Stardock\ObjectDock(Plus)

If you still have problems, I'd recommend uninstalling and resinstalling ObjectDock.

I have the same problem on my Home Premium 7, I installed a startup delayer made by the same people as Xion media player. I set it to start 3 minutes after everything, And BTW it still takes 30 seconds. IF you have your spyware or any other "update on start" programs, everything gets jammed up. Setting a hotkey is another good thing and I like very much the Keyboard Launchpad, just make sure you don't assign conflicting hotkeys. There are also apps to tell you which keys are occupied

 

NOTHING should take over an hour to load and, I have some pretty heavy programs. Get your system checked.

I tried renaming the setting file (as per Dewie's suggestion) - no change.

I've also tried disabling all docklets - no change.

This didn't start until my IT guy swapped out my old PC for a new one (the lease was up).  Ever since, it's been taking more than an hour.  I'll try un-installing and re-installing next.

Proud Liberal now that you have identified that yours is a work computer do you have permission from your IT guy to download and add new programs?  Most of the times they are very touchy about that.  It's possible that he may have something installed on the computer running in the background that doesn't like Object Dock.

EDIT:  Your are talking about a work computer, correct?

Yes, I can install new programs.  The only change has been to the hardware.  Everything else is the same except for hardware drivers. 

 

How do I track down what's causing the problem?  Is there any way to display the process that OD is performing in it's startup?  The image of the dock loads immediately but is frozen for more than an hour.  During that time, docklets (ie calendar) do not display the correct icon (only a ?).

 Does it load slowly after reboots only or also when you close and reopen OD  from the systray?

One suggestion-Try loading a blank(empty) dock and see how it performs.

Longshot- The icons are on your local machine, not being loaded from another computer over a network, right?

I haven't mentioned the fact that the second dock (tabbed) doesn't load at all.  I need to wait the hour + for the main dock to load, then go into dock setting and click on Manage My Docks for the 2nd one to open.  The second dock opens immediately but only when manually accessed.

Proud Liberal ...something is definitely interupting your system loading process.  A typical OS startup 'should' complete within about 3 minutes....measured from button-press to HD 'thrashing' ceasing.

Usually the one thing that may legitimately slow down a full system start is an anti-virus scan set for 'at startup'.  About the only other thing is a 'hang' due to driver conflict and/or a 'bug' aka virus/trojan subverting the process.

If the only indication of a slow-load is with the Dock then Dewie's suggestion re reinstalling makes sense.

If however other 'bits' are slow you may need to think about reinstalling the OS entirely, particularly if there have been hardware changes in the meantime.

It is a brand new installation in a new box.  Is there some way to monitor or log the OD loading process to identify the source of the problem???
