I had the same thing with my Creative X-Fi Soundblaster installation disc... installs everything on Vista without issue, but not Win 7.  However, I downloaded the exact same drivers/apps from the Creative Labs site and they all installed/work fine.

I dunno that you beat Win 7, tho... but you can chalk up a win against Nikon.  Not having to pay out a 190 quid to update something you already own is a win in my book.

Yes I can!  In fact, I sympathise and think you're entitled to be angry.  Just prior to Vista's release my old (second-hand) Canon went guts up and I had to buy a new printer, and oh how I regret going with a HP All-In-One  It was was less than 1 month old, but it still wouldn't install on Vista and HP had no intention of updating the drivers so it would.  They had released a new range (the C series) in the meantime and, apparently, updating drivers and/or software for prior editions wasn't a priority, warranted or cost effective.  In other words, I had just paid $179 for a useless POS. 

Luckily for me, I was dual booting and I could access my 3-in-1 through XP, but it meant having to boot out of my preferred OS to do so.  What's more.. uh, worse, is that when I first went with HP the ink tanks for it were 10 ml... then they went down to 7ml... then to 3ml... yet they still cost the same (more with price rises/inflation).  Talk about rip off!  I currently have a HP PhotoSmart C4180... and let's just say my next printer WON'T be a HP POS.

Same here!   And yeah, knowing how much ink is left after they slashed the quantity by more than half is vital.  Thing is, even with Windows drivers, my old HP 3-in-1 never installed on Vista. 

I'm thinking that I'll probably go with a Canon MP640... takes 5 individual ink tanks and I'm told it is quite economical to use.  Thing is, I can get it for $197 AUD at an electronics superstore (bulk buying power) and not the $299 Canon says is the RRP.

I'm not too sure how I would go in getting Kodak ink locally.  I've not seen any local places who stock it, and I wouldn't want to have to go out of my way to get it.  I have 3 local outlets where I can get reasonably priced Canon cartridges, so I thinking Canon is probably my best bet.  Epson and Brother also have a couple of nice 3-in 1 units, but their ink is that bit more expensive ('round here, anyway).

That's nice to know.  I started thinking Canon when Frogboy was talking about his MP540, and how impressed he is with it, so when i found that I could get the MP560 for a tad less, I figured it was probably the way to go. It will have to wait for a week or 6, though.... other priorities, plus my HP POS still has some ink and isn't dead yet.  Yup, that is one of the more disappointing purchases I have made...

What I'm going to do, however, when I get the MP560, is to buy 2 sets of tanks and get the empty ones professionally refilled as necessary... 15 bucks a pop.   Just got told there's an online place here that does all major brand ink tanks for a quarter of their retail price (makes you wonder about store prices, don't it), but I'm thinking refilling would be more economical, until the tanks become no longer viable, that is.  The guy at the refill place says that he doesn't like to refill tanks more than a half dozen or so times, as the print heads deteriorate too much beyond that.

You won  that battle,my money is on Windows to win the war.

Doc, Was this cheap ink location on the Internet, if so is there a link, and how does the ink work.?  I tried Internet ink once and it didn't work to good actually a couple of times it leaked and was a mess.

I have an Epson 7400 series, scanner, printer. It's been a year now, and it does everything it's suppose to. Yay!!
