The Keyboard LaunchPad released!

Canton MI – Stardock has released Keyboard LaunchPad, a new program that can make virtually any kind of action performed on a PC into a keyboard short-cut.

The program comes with the ability to launch programs, visit URLs, control MP3 players, paste saved clipboards, perform system commands, and more - all from saved keyboard combinations.

For example, a user who wants to visit a set of websites very often can assign that website to Ctrl-Alt-W or Windows Key-5 or some other combination.

A graphics designer who uses a set of images on a regular basis can copy a graphic into the clipboard and assign Keyboard LaunchPad to paste that graphic when the assigned keyboard combination is chosen (Keyboard LaunchPad will save the clipboard item for the user automatically). This particular feature is also very useful for people who have a lot of “canned replies” or multiple “sig” lines in their emails or postings.

In addition, Keyboard LaunchPad comes with an SDK to extend what it can control. With it, users can assign keyboard short-cuts to perform complex actions in a particular application. Stardock has included the ability to control several popular MP3 players in this way as an example.

Keyboard LaunchPad is available individually for $9.95. Volume licensing is available. It is also available as part of Stardock’s Object Desktop suite of desktop enhancements, which also includes WindowBlinds, DesktopX, ObjectBar, Tab LaunchPad, IconPackager, and more. Object Desktop is $49.95.

Found launchpad when I started using Stardock Central. I have a Logitec keyboard, and have two pc's networked together and sharing a single keyboard, mouse, and monitor via a Lynksys 2 port switch. the logitec software for the multi-function keys never worked right switching back and forth between the two pc's. Since I found launchpad, I no longer have the Logitec software installed, I'm using launchpad with good results and no probs so far. I recommend it.

Well, I'm glad everyone has gotten to DL it. I have found that when they say something new is out, it comes up on my Stardock Central about 2 days later. Glad the rest of yo can get it. By the way, I have it set for betas and all that crap, still doesn't work.

I think it's a great concept, sort of. There have been many programs released and downloadable on sites like tucows and nonags, but this program does take hotkeys a few steps further. It allows you to control a lot more of the user interface than simply launching certain programs. However, it has one inherent drawback: the more you customize it, the more you as the user have to remember. So if you don't use a certain hotkey combo for a few days, are you going to remember it? What about when you have 30 combinations? Will you really remember what they all do? Even printing out a list of the keyboard shortcuts still requires looking up functionality.

Conceptually it's a great idea, but functionally any program like this is a bit too difficult, perhaps even cumbersome, to use. Sorry guys, I just don't see myself using it.

Oh, Hippie, you may want to update sdcentral to the newest version. If you already have it, try uninstalling and reinstalling. I had trouble with one of the SDC betas as well.

wow nifty idea! However, i uses and loves program called CLCL ( yes, odd name ) as clip cache. amazing clip cache that saves pictures, text, and even copied files! ie: you want to paste same files at 3 directories? no problem!

Tryzub: that's why I included a "print hotkeys" button which will print out a list of all your hotkeys and their functions.

Once you get used to them, they'll come easy believe me... i have probably 25 set up, about 10 of which i use very frequently, and the rest of which I've gradually gotten used to and just tend to remember now.

I believe that Component Manager is being phased out; Stardock will no longer be supporting it in the near future.

May I suggest that you take a look at (and download) SD Central http://www.sdcentral.net. This application gives you the same application upgrade functionality that Component Manager does; however, it offers one huge advantage: it only updates the components of the application that you need rather than downloading an entire installation file.
