In general if a utility application does not specifically mention 64 bit support then you should assume it probably does not have it at least if it adds anything to explorer.

Unfortunately Stardock Virtual Desktops does not support any version of 64 bit Windows to the best of my knowledge (XP, Vista or 7)  The product page was almost certainly done before 64 bit OSes were mainstream.

I so wish I had read this before wasting the past 90 minutes trying to install it. I had been using Dexpot, which takes a s...load of configuring but eventually works quite well. Unfortunately it doesn't play well with Fences, restricting it to the 1st desktop. Double clicking on any of the virtual desktops to unhide Fences does nothing, reducing the usefulness of the extra desktops by half.

I've only just gone back to MS as my main OS (Win7 Ultimate X64) after years of being a committed Linux user. Win7 is the best desktop OS produced so far by MS, but why oh why will they never include multiple desktops, a great productivity aid and one of the top 5 attractions (IMO) of Linux.

Shirley, if the application has been discontinued, can you please try and get the appropriate web pages updated? I very nearly bought it without trialling it first, expecting it to run as well as Fences which installed on X64 with no problems.

Or on another tack, if Stardock don't wish to maintain or update Virtual Desktops, it would be good public relations if they were to release the source code under an open source license and let volunteer developers play with it and see what comes of it.

This all makes me pretty sad.  My girlfriend wanted windowblinds.  So I just went ahead and bought the whole package.  We bought a new computer that was on clearance and I kinda thought without really looking into it that the programs would be running on 7.  though it is 64bit, i kinda thought thats what wow64 was supposed to be for...I can run games from the early 90's just fine, unlike on vista....   so. The reason I bought everything was to utilize all the programs.  It makes me sad that the responses are along the lines that stardock doesn't plan on doing anything, go google some free things, which isn't a horrific response, but i guess I'll just enjoy dreamscape.  without reading the guide...desktopx is confusing on how to do...anything btw....I've done a lot with talisman from lightek..but it loves to crash on me...so anyways...I won't make a big deal about it.  Consider the extra money a tip for windowblinds.  but as for alternatives litestep is also free, very fun and does a lot!  The reason I wanted the whole package was so I didn't have to deal with it, I'm not 13 anymore, I don't have time. I would have paid more if it would just work. but regardless, thanks.  

totally agree. switched to x64 and half the stuff doesn't work properly. Time schange and soon x64 will be the standard. Best be prepared Stardock.

I just found a superior alternative to SVD: Dexpot http://dexpot.de

The commercial license costs pesky 19 euro, worth every single cent. For private use, it's free!

Finally forced to go 64-bit and still no upgrade to SVD?  Too bad.

interesting... did not think of that... but it still would be nice to have things like fences work with virtual desktop managers...
