Impulse Optional?

Evaluating Objectdock for a production environment

I work at a hospital and we are using a relatively simple dock app to keep frequently-used apps accessible for our clinical staff.

I came across the Object dock and liked how it ran more efficiently that the app we are using on older hardware, plus your config files are easy to customize.

I downloaded the latest release to continue my testing and noticed that we got the Impulse client as well. I'd all the same rather not have the extra bits on a multi-user client in a work environment.

Now I know you folks did the Dell Dock, so I wonder if there will still be a way to get a no-frills, no impulse version of ObjectDock, or should I use the older version sans-Impulse?

The free version (sans impulse far as I know) DOWNLOAD.COM

The plus version is likely only available via Impulse as that is Stardock's installation software. It keeps them from have to write a separate setup program for each of their software titles.

Even if it is tied to Impulse, you can uninstall impulse AFTER you've installed OD

You will need to have Impulse installed if you wish to keep it current with updates. You can us it to install OD and updates and then uninstall it, but that doesn't sound like what you would want to do under a work environment. Impulse uses very few resources so I see no reason anyone should take issue with having it installed on their system.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I'll do more research...what I don't want is the end users (and patients, for that matter) using impulse as a means to install software (such as games) we do not want on our production machines. In all fairness, I haven't dug into it too much. Superficially, it is a lot like Steam (I am a steam user), and that is where my concerns come from.

All the free versions of our apps will be migrating to be installed with Impulse.
