Gap around window edge / thick transparent frame

Is there a reason so many blinds have a large gap outside the window frame? For example, when I tile windows, the frames do not touch each other or the outer edge of my desktop. This is a wast of space to me, and I have found a couple skins that do not have this, but it seems a majority do. Is there a way to modify that? And when I do find a nice skin that has minimal or no gap, then the vertical task bar doesn't work correctly, which is completely annoying.

I figured out that if I enable the option "never use per pixel borders on a skin" on the System Info tab (odd place for it!) then I don't have the issue. However, I can't believe that these gaps I'm experiencing when it is not enabled are by design? Certainly per pixel borders look a lot nicer, but why would I want to lose so much screen real estate?

I tiled four windows, and captured where the four of them meet in the center of my desktop. I've tried dozens of windowblinds and they pretty much all do the same thing. The only one that doesn't is Leo, which has almost no border at all.

Looks like dropshadow space to me. turning off perpixel also turns off shadows.

ummm... if you looked at my system info, you'ld see I'm running dual 24", 1920x1200 displays. At home, I have a single 30" 2560x1920. I just don't like wasted space.

So are drop shadows just a standard feature of most skins these days? is there a way to turn off the shadow, without turning off the per pixel borders? Some skins look funky around the eges without the per pixel, but anything is better than those ridiculous gaps!!

Almost all of them. The shadows are part of the graphics making up the window frames. Some have sm,aller shadows than others. UIS2 frames are used when you turn off per pixel borders. Per pixel is required to get smooth edges and corners. With UIS 2 you get the jaggies.
