I miss the days of Graham Langlands, Billy Smith, Rocket Reddy, and all of those guys,
Yup, they were the good old days.... days when players could remain at their club for the duration of their playing career if they wanted to. Not any more, not with the salary cap restrictions forcing clubs to let long-serving and loyal players go to remain under the cap to avoid fines/loss off premiership points. I know that Petero Civonoceva didn't want to leave ther Broncos, but at the end of the day he was given no choice.
I did meet Peter Sterling [Ex Parramatta] in a golf club with my Dad, and had a few beers with him, nice guy, bald as a badger now though
Yeah, Sterlo is a great bloke... I met him when he and Paul Vautin did the Channel 9 Footy Show up here... both gentlemen and great ambassadors of the game. I used to work with Allan (Alfie) Langer on the Ipswich City Council some years ago, but I've met and known quite a few Broncos over the years... Wendell Sailor is a cousin to my kids on their mother's side, as is Mal Meninga somewhere along the line.
Despite the changes, however, I still follow the rugby league cos it's a darned sight better game than that aerial ping pong stuff they play down in Victoria... cos I'm a bloke and traditionally gotta watch/follow some sport. The only other sport I bother with is cricket, but generally the international games.
