I have a suspicion there is an extra buddy in my network, or I going paranoid...
I have it set up with three computers: my desktop, wired in to the router; my dad's computer, wired in to the router; and my dad's work computer, wireless connection to the same router.
I also downloaded Microsoft Network Monitor 3.2, and after about 5 minutes I was getting a little concerned: the other two computers weren't even on, yet a few packets I was reading was about a "Query to 192.168.1.XXX", the IP range that my network is set up with, so it isn't WAP connection from what I understand. Is it normal to know my computer will try to connect to other computers in the same network every a few seconds, even though all of the computers beside mine are all off?
There was also a "File Access to 192.168.1.XXX" attempt to my dad's desktop, even though the computer was off at the time, plus there should be no shared folders allowed in my network.
Plus, I used to have a laptop connected wirelessly to the network, I dropped Coca-Cola on the damn thing (that's why I have a desktop now...
) and decided to scrap it and get a new machine (I took the laptop apart to try and understand a laptop hardware configuration (I understand it now because of it
), then I put it in the garbage, as it was useless after that). That happened at the end of July! And yet my desktop now is trying to access to the laptop that hasn`t been connected to for months! Should I be worried?
Plus, I was trying to scan my computer with Windows Live OneCare with a complete checkup before I went to bed, and when I checked only thirty minutes ago, it was stuck at 60% in folder "C://Program Files/Autodesk/3DS Max 2008/Plugins/". I decided to pause and resume, only to find it wouldn't resume at all! The only thing I could do was cancel the whole operation. A definate suspicion I have an intruder in my computer, let alone the network.
Software configuration (Everything is legit!):
-OS: Windows Vista Home Premium SP1;
-Antivirus/Antimalware: Windows Live OneCare;
-.NET 3.5;
-Visual Studio Express 2008 suite, besides no Visual Basic (and I will never have, VB sucks IMHO);
-Java Developer Kit, with JCreator as the editor;
-Windows Automatic Updates is on, and up-to-date
-Latest Limewire Pro P2P Manager
-Latest FlashGet Download Manager
Games:
-NFS Most Wanted
-NFS Undercover
-World of Warcraft
-Warcraft 3 + Expansion
-Unreal Tournament 3
-Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone
Hardware configuration:
-3gb RAM;
-500gb Hard Drive;
-GeForce 9300 GE with PhysX support;
-AMD X3 2.0ghz 3-core processor;
-I can't seem to find the manufactor or any information about the motherboard itself. Plus, the network hardware is integrated into the motherboard.
Plus, there was just an unknown (for what I understand) "Logoff ANDX" command to both my dad's desktop and my desktop. Can you clarify that? Should I be worried about that as well?
Now this may be normal, but I am not sure at all, as this is the first attempt with a network.
