severe problem

I just purchased DeskScapes and installed it. When I tried to run the program, I received the following:

"The ordinal 345 could not be located in the dynamic link library COMCTL32.dll".

I have no idea what that means.

Running WinXP on a Dell Dimension 2350, 2.1gHz/768 ram.

Thank you for any support that makes this work.

Did you update through Impulse?  Did you reboot?

Oddly enough, I just tried to update through Impulse and it told me that it "doesn't support my operating system". I am going to reboot now and try again.

I was able to update Impulse and DeskScapes, and strangely enough, the only .dream I could get to work was the Stardock cube. DreamScapes bogged my machine down so badly that I couldn't run anything else, especially my browser(s). I love Stardock and its products, but this was, seemingly, a waste of my money. My bad.

Is this an XP system? If so, and you have an AGP card on your rig, it won't work. The info on the Deskscapes page tells you that. Mine is an XP with an AGP card, and dreams bog me down so I can't do anything. If your AGP card is an 8x card, there will be support soon. It says that 2x and 4x are not gonna be supported. Not enough bandwidth. Bummer.

When someone, anyone has a problem there are a couple of options open before feeling bad about a purchase.

You're doing the first in raising the problem in Forums, if no answer is forthcoming or if the answers don't make it happen, why not open a ticket at Stardock Support?

These folks are really helpful and courteous and have an honest desire to help. I've never had a bad experience with them!

Sorry if I should'a posted this in the 'Official Support thread' but my problem was mentioned here so... 

I just installed the new Deskscapes update (excited XP user) and I read the stuff about the AGP drivers but I'm running ATI PCIE- x16 and man does it stop the whole computer, pretty much can't even move the mouse it's so slow.

If you need any sys. or card info let me know what you need and where I can find it.

Is this a driver issue? Is it maybe something else? I'm happy to wait for driver updates later on but, I'm not AGP?

Any info would be appriciated.

To answer earlier inquiries: Running Win XP SP2 (SP3 won't install) on a Dell Dimension 2350 with a 2.2gHz and 1,024 mb RAM. Graphics is Intel 82845 G/GL/GE/PE/GV. DreamScapes slows machine to a worthless crawl. I'm not unhappy for spending the money, and I could post in the Support Thread (and may, eventually). I know that the ppl here will help me, if with nothing else than honest feedback (and so will Stardock). I'm just not the computer wizard that some of my friends are, and I'd rather ask you guys/gals then them. Guess I'll feel less stupid this way...Thanks all.

Yep. DirectX 9.0c installed.
You can have 9.0c installed but your card may not support all it's features.  (  might want to check that

The 845 is not a DX9 part.

DX 9.0c may be installed, but many of the dreams will use pixel shaders which your card simply cannot do (as it isn't a DX9 part)

Well, thanks Neil. I appreciate your response. But what the heck does that mean? It isn't a DX9 part? Sorry, as I semi-stated earlier, I'm not the computer guru that some of my younger friends are; do I have DX9 or not, and what else do I need to run DeskScapes?

As always, I remain confused...and frustrated.

You can have a DX driver.  But that driver goes out to the card and says "Do this cool thing" . . the card may not be able to do that thing sns . . . nothing happens.

Your card . . can't do whatever cool thing DeskScapes is telling the driver to tell the card to do.

OK, I think I understand. I have the driver, but it's not driving anywhere. I have the card, but it's not my birthday. I have the program, but it doesn't work. I had the cash, but it's all gone now.

Hi

I believe the Intel 82845 G/GL/GE/PE/GV video on your system is an integrated video chipset on the motherboard which is using part of your system ram.  Right away, id say it is because of the integrated graphics card, they, in most cases are great for everyday business or office applications.  When you get into games, Video and animation is where it will not work well. What you need my friend is either an new video card that install s on the board, probable either a pci express or AGP 8x depending on your avail slots on your board.
