I know this sounds like a newbie bonehead question but hear me out.
I can create a shortcut on a dock with a path such as "C:\" and a window pops up no problem. I have 2 machines, the other with network shares. If I create a new shortcut with the intended path of \\MACHINE2\C, in the shortcut dialog (objectdock's, not Windows'), as soon as I type '\\' the dialog freezes for at least 30 seconds. Then I can type "M" and wait another 30 seconds. (???) If I actually manage to get all this typed in and hit ok, when I click the shortcut on the dock it flashes and I wait. Sometimes as much as 5 minutes before the window suddenly appears. During that time I can just browse through the network and get to it no problem so it's not the target machine.
This only happens with network shares. the target machine is on, accessible and browseable. Why does objetcdock have such a hard time with it?
Thanks!
