Forum bug: Mark all, does not mark all :(

When I click "Mark all posts as read", and when time passes all the posts get showned as unread.

If I click mark all as read, I expect them all to be read. And not appearing again with the green dot. Please resolve this.

Hmm . . just loaded Impulse, clicked on the Community tab, clicked forums, clicked view recent posts, clicked "Mark all as read"  . . . and it did.

Yeah, but when you return at a later state, they all reapear as unread.

I was unable to replicate this issue in either IE, FF, or Impulse. I will continue to monitor this problem. In the mean time please clear your cookies as a "Just in case" step.

I have done this from serveral computers, different OS, online or inline. No mather what, every topics afterwards get marked as unread.

It's a cookie Mindtooth . . every PC you try will have different cookies.

Tested working with Impulse, IE7, Firefox 2.0.0.14 and Firefox 3.0.

Sounds like you have an issue with the cookies on your system. I would reccommend clearing your cookies for Internet Explorer.

Sure I know that this is a cookie case. But the system should store each thread I have marked as read. And when I reloggin later the system will give me a cookie with the updated setting from my previous visit.
Look at IP.Board and vBulletin, when you click mark all and return to index. All post/threads will be marked as read, and when you visit at a later time, they are all marked.

This is the feature I want, when I want them to be marked as read, I sure want them to be when I return again later. Do mark, when I have logged in.

There is no cookie problem (or, we can discribe it such), but rather a solution made by Stardock not to implement a proper cookie system with their mark all feature.

Just my two... (Even though the two cents increased to several bucks.)

It's generally bad form to tell a website how their website shoud perform. It's always appropriate to ask for features, but generally not to instruct people who run a website as to what they should be doing. You will not always receive a warm welcome with that approach.

If you are logged in, the forums will track what posts youve read and display icons for the posts appropriately. This has been in place for some time and works as designed. Because we have well over 500,000 posts (and 2.5 million replies, we designate a separation) in our system across all of our websites, we use a cookie for the 'mark all as read' function. A cookie is set and is taken into account when displaying post icons. If this cookie is corrupt, or if your system has an issue with storing or reading cookies then this becomes a client issue and the server can do nothing about it. We use this approach for convenience, speed and efficiency. Feel free to continue to discuss this or encourage discussion about this feature, but please understand that this feature is tested working, has been working for some time now and will not be changing in implementation in the forseeable future.

Thanks for your interest in the forums though. We usually don't get a whole lot of feedback from occasional users.

If someone get angry because they get a comment on their product, I recommend that they removed it and leave the internet or their products behind. The user is the one that uses the product, and therefore the one with the feedback.

There is no use of a function called mark all as read, if they don't stay read. I experience this with various machines and browsers.

Not sure why every other forum solution manage to save witchever posts the user have read when they are logged in, and this can't. Is is .NET, or something else?

Of course I give feedback. I really like Stardock and their products, and I only give a positive loaded feedback.

MindTooth I think there might be a misunderstanding. It has been explained that this issue must be on your end for how our forums work. The server does not contain the info, the client computer contains the cookie. Something on your end is causing this cookie to be corrupted or deleted. I could start looking at security applications.

I understand what you are asking for but it isn't going to be implemented, at least no time soon. To get this tool functioning as you wish please check to see what would be messing with your browsers on your end. Sorry for the troubles.

The posts get marked as posted. But is is when I clear my cookies they reappear as unread. I understand that this is a cookie stored locale. But with e.g. IP.Board some of it is stored as a server-basis and when I reloggin they still show as read.

But if this is not implementet. I understand. Just wanted to leave my feedback.

That's understood and thank you for it. I hope I didn't sound condescending at all I just thought perhaps there was a break down in the points being made.
