New Version of Winzip Just Released

Yep, that favorite little zip utility just got an update. Here's the change log, if you are interested. Time to update your zipper, guys!!!!!

WinZip® 11.2 is an update to our most recent major release, WinZip 11.0. In addition to the features introduced in WinZip 11.1 and WinZip 11.0 (outlined below), WinZip 11.2 changes include:

  • Unicode support to ensure international characters are displayed for filenames in a Zip file when the Zip file is shared between two computers having different code pages (the default set of text characters available for display.)  For Unicode support, the Zip file must be created and opened with a zip utility that supports the Unicode extensions to the Zip file format such as WinZip 11.2
  • Integrated support for LHA to create, open and extract LHA archives (.LHA and .LZH). This eliminates the need for a third-party DOS program
  • Removal of support for DOS-based, third-party programs such as ARJ and ARC
  • Minor bug fixes and enhancements

LOL....I'm still using version 8.1 or something. Actually, I just use WinRAR for everything now.

This version of Winzip now handles rar files as well.

Win Zip to me is important but I paid one time and I think it's goofy to have to pay every year for the program.


It's no different than most software's (Object Desktop included) major releases payment concept.

The best one for me ..In fact , the only one for me is JUST ZIP IT ..I have used it for over 4 years no problems !!

I agree about Just Zip IT and it's free! Another is Universal Extractor, also free. Will extract Anything!

I have been using 7zip....no problems, no hassle, and its free. WOO  HOO!

Yes, just like a snicker, only sounding like Audrey Hepburn in "My Fair Lady"  And yes, I, too am glad I didn't do a typo just the. Whew, close call.
