I'm new to object desktop suite and will admit I'm still feeling my way around... I'm managed to figure out most of the applications so far but still have a long way to go...
but I really wanted to give some feedback for the Iconpackager/Developer beta.
first Impressions.. I know it's a beta but WOW is it ever a pain to use.
first of all the link between Packager and Developer doesn't work... any button or menu option saying to change color or edit icons etc does not recognize that Developer is installed and takes you to the download site for Developer enhanced... you might want to fix that..
Second I was able to successfully load developer, load a package or ICO and even mass change the color of a library. very cool.
thats where the cool factor quickly became frustrating... Developer only creates either individual icons or Icon Libraries .ico or .icl files... which is fine except without the .iconpackage file packager can't do much with that..
What I was expecting was something windowblinds like were you can take an existing suite... change a few setting and Voila! you have an entire new look...
boy was that ever a dissapointment... Iconpackager can only change packages en mass.. it can't take a folder of *.ico files or even a *.icl file an create a new package. That was I guess what I was expecting.. or at least be able to take an existing package and create a new package. (could be because the link is broken???)
As is the course of action to edit a package is to one by one change the icons currently in use and then save it as a new package... ouch... i suppose it would be so bad and I can see that you need to rebuild the icon associations but on top of that the change icon procedure is a royal pain in the A$$ process of searching though browser windows... It's especially annoying since the browser autodefaults back to the origional location and the only way to find the new icon is to start at the "mycomptuer" level and browse to the location each and every time... very tedious and inconvienient.
Now I could be doing this totally wrong and if I am please point me out to a better way of doing it... but as is its far more time consuming than it should be.
