Thanks to a tip from Skittles (regularly found at UncleGamer.com) with original tip found at Cheap-ssGamer.com, here's a hot tip on a heck of a deal on the Microsoft Xbox HD-DVD drive:
For anyone looking to pick up the HD DVD player for the Xbox 360, Best Buy will be running a special deal on the accessory starting on Sunday (October 22, 2007). Anyone purchasing the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on will get a free copy of the Heroes Season 1 boxed set on HD DVD. No mail-in rebate, you just pick up both at the store. $179.99 price tag on the deal, but considering that the Heroes boxed set normally runs for $60+, that's a hell of a deal. |
Plus there is definitely a 5 free disc offer still working:
Not a bad deal at all. Heroes season 1 HD-DVD set definitely runs in that $60 - $90 range, plus the 5 free discs, the universal media remote, plus oh, yeah, by the way, the Xbox HD-DVD add-on drive still comes with the free copy of King Kong on HD-DVD in the box so it's really 6 discs plus the Heroes set (which is multiple discs and over 22 hours of programming).
Note that to use the Xbox HD-DVD add-on drive you must have an Xbox 360 *or* you can connect the drive via USB to a Vista based PC, or possibly to a Windows XP based system and use appropriate software on that PC to play HD-DVDs with. For example, see this article at Endgadget on using Cyberlink's PowerDVD Ultra to play back HD-DVD or Blu-ray discs on a Windows based PC (assuming you have capable hardware).
