Omni Time Widget Problems

For a long time I've used both Omni Time and Omni Weather widgets. Suddenly, yesterday, omni time won't load when I start up and I get a Desktopx screen with a message that I had to close Desktopx. I deleted the omnitime.exe from the widgets folder and downloaded it again from Wincustomize. But after placing it in the widgets folder, no luck. Still won't load. Any ideas?

%userprofile%/Local Settings/Application Data/Stardock/DesktopX (copy/paste) that into "Start > Run"

You should see a folder labeled Widget Cache. Open this folder then delete the Omni Time and Omni Weather folders you see.

Download them again and try running the .exe.

Also, do you have DesktopX running all the time? I only ask because I've had widget problems/error messages, but they never said anything about DX. You probably already know, but in case not you don't need (and shouldn't have) DX running unless you're using an Object or a Desktop Theme. If this isn't the case, unload DX before you attempt to run the widgets (not that it should matter anyway).

Thanks for the responses. As has happened before, the problem fixed itself. I've seen this happen many times with XP and never cease to be amazed.

Kilo: How do I know if Desktopx is running all the time? I do know it starts up automatically when my computer starts, but I always click on the continue button and minimize omni weather. When I check task manager with ctrl-alt-del I don't see Desktopx running, just the two omni programs.

Well if DesktopX.exe or DesktopX Builder.exe are not showing in the processes tab of Task Manager then its not running. You should also have a DX icon in the system tray if its running.

What continue message do you get when you first boot up your PC?

If by chance you just didn't see that DX was running the first time, to disable startup just open DX config and select the preferences tab > uncheck the option that states "Run automatically when windows starts".

Kilo: I guess the confusion arises because you think I have a purchased copy of Desktopx. I don't. I simply have the free version which allows me to use/load the widgets. So, the continue splash screen pops up so that I can continue using the free w/o paying.

Regarding the initial erratic behavior:

I'm wondering if you may have "imported" the widget instead of "loading" it or running it. I say this because the distinction wasn't clear to me at first, and "importing" a widget for general usage can cause erratic behavior, depending on the widget.

For general usage of a widget, you DO NOT want to go into "Configure DexktopX", "Import an Object", click on "Widgets", and load it.

You DO want to double click on the exe file or create a shortcut to it, just as you would any other program. Or, you want to go into "DesktopX Welcome", "Load Widgets", "Load Widgets" again, and double click on the exe file.

Maybe that confusion was the source of your problem. If not, then I've just created more cyberspace trivia and I suppose that's ok too.
