They do not need a specific e-mail address to send them out, but by replying then they will have yours....and will fill your inbox with spam.

Unless you have specifically filled out anything on a website that requires them to send you something via e-mail...then it is either spam or a scam and they need a response in order to get your e-mail addy. Including sites that claim to have added you to a subscription that you actually did not sign up for but they need you to click a link to unsubscribe.
