What the F****??"???

Ok I am at the end of my freakin rope here. There is no explanation for this bull crap and If I didn't pay for this software I would have already thrown it in the garbage.

I cant get my task bar height to save because windows classic is my theme before wb is applied. If I change my theme back to xp defualt it completely breaks wb. I ended up reinstalling with the xp theme loaded. WB showes no XP default theme, only the wb themes and the windows classic theme! WHY ISNT IT SHOWING THE DEFUALT XP THEME AS AN OPTION!???? Also if I go to load a theme, it ditches the xp theme completely, switches me back to classic then paints the wb skin on top of that. WTF IS GOING ON HERE?!

Its like its just completely F**KED. I want it to save my taskbar height but it wont do it if its using windows classic as my default theme. Why wont it let me use XP default as my default theme, why does it change to classic (nulling out my taskbar settings) then change to the theme its loading? Why doesnt it just go from XP default to the WB skin?

I seriously just ripped a chunk of hair out of my head over this because It defies all logic.

Well, knowing that millions of people don't have such drastic issues leads me to believe that perhaps your doing something wrong or its a system specific issue. Unfortunately as much as I would like to help you I am drawing a blank on this one.

Either way, try to go easy on the hair, you will need it later in life.

Go to Start and right-click on My Computer. Choose Manage. In the window that appears, double-click on Services and Appications, and then Double-click on Services. In the list that appears, find Themes. Right-click on Themes and choose Properties. Make sure it is set to Automatic, not Disabled, and is started. If it isnt, set it to Automatic, then click Start. Click OK.

Close out of Computer Management. Reboot to be safe. Now see if you can choose the XP Theme.

There are a lot of apps in the Windows OS that do the same function. Sometimes two programs will fight each other and cause all kind of problems. Without knowing what you are running on your computer and how, it is hard to be of help.
By your words, this seems to be more of a rant than a question. I can say that in the years that I have used WindowBlinds I have had very few problems. Those few that I have had, I found, were caused by myself. Keep on trying. You may find the answer yet. If you do please let us know. Thanks

The reason that Windowblinds switches to the "classic" theme when you load it, is because Windowblinds does not use the same theme engine as XP. When you have the default XP theme on and you want to load Windowblinds, the XP theme service must stop (this is why you see the classic windows) and the Windowblinds service is started.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "saving your taskbar height". Can you elaborate on this process?

*Oh, and it does sound like the XP theme services was disabled, follow the directions from purball.
You can get to the services window more quickly by pressing the "WIN key" + "R" and typing services.msc into the run box.

Edit - I see what you mean; it will do that even changing WB skins. I usually run with a right-side Taskbar & this issue does not affect right- or left-docked Taskbars.

I don't know that there is a way to fix it - just have to reset the Taskbar after each skin change best I can tell.

Go to Override Default Settings in WindowBlinds and look in the middle of the page. Change the taskbar size away from "Skin Decides Taskbar Size" to something else. This should allow you to change the size of the taskbar. I agree with you that WB should leave the taskbar the size you set it as for freak sake. Why can't it just skin the thing the same way that XP Themes do and let it keep whatever size you set it to? Yet another one of those "stupid" things.

Am I completely off-base with what you want, or can you right-click on the taskbar (after a skin is applied) and make sure its unlocked, then drag the top to the height you want?

Am I completely off-base with what you want, or can you right-click on the taskbar (after a skin is applied) and make sure its unlocked, then drag the top to the height you want?

CerebroJD The complaint is that if you have a tall toolbar and apply a WB the height goes down to single height an you have to adjust it taller again ( I think).

It's weird though, I've always used doubletask and have *never* had a problem with any skin changing it to single.

WindowBlinds is not the one changing the size of the taskbar.

Explorer decides on the size based on the current height and the current margins. Based on this it works out the number of rows that will fit and will then round DOWN to the nearest (min of 1 row).

This can be reproduced with 2 different msstyle files as well as WB. If the themes have different margins by even 1 pixel then the taskbar will resize.

Your taskbar should remain the size it was when you reboot, it will only change when you actually apply a new theme. Back in 2001 it would change on reboot, but that was fixed many years ago (in the WB 3 series I believe)
