Help Needed - Animation PNG etc.

Hello, I've just started to take an interest in this and have made a start by downloading other people's desktops and working out what's going on and making some small tweaks of my own.

Having got a general idea I decided to try and create an object of my own from scratch.

My first step was to think about the destop graphic/icon so I created one in Adobe ImageReady. I then turned this into a 5 frame animated GIF. 

My question is this. How do I convert a 5 frame animated GIF into a PNG file that I can use?

I have Fireworks 8 and ImageReady.

If someone could help or point me a a tutorial I'd be very grateful, Thanks

easiest for me it sto get Irfanview (it's free) - use that to extract your frames, then put the frames in Aniutil. You can get Aniutil from Island Dog's post on Making a Custom Cursor with CursorXP Pt 2. Link is in the 2nd paragraph of the post.

It would also help it we knew which area you were making the animation for. WB, DTX, ODock, CursorXP, etc

In my opinion, you're best bet is to start with PNG from the beginning. GIF's are restricted to 256 colors, and single color transparency, so converting them to PNG could result in less than wonderful graphics (jagged edges, and such). With PNG you get true color, with alpha blending (per-pixel translucency).
But as I said.... that's just 'my' opinion.

I'm sure you're right.   

I started with a GIF because I'd done some animated GIFs in the past, start with what you know, and I was hoping I could convert it using Fireworks 8 to PNG. You probably can but I've only just started using Fireworks and haven't worked out how yet. I was hoping someone on here might give me a push in the right direction.

In the mean time I'll see if I can't work out how to do it from scratch, even if it means RTFM!
