Okay, Sorry for the *Long* post below [ Basically: 1) How do I put a button on the status bar, the bottom one, that will launch an executable or system function like you can on the titlebar, and 2) How can I tweak the right click menus likeI do with "RightClick" on the desktop, but in other areas such as clicking *inside* a shell or applicaiton (can it be done with RightClick or skinstudio or ??) I use these products to get away from coding with stuff like c# or VB in Visual Studio]
I'm looking for help from the community, or any developers that hang about. I am making good progress learning the ins and outs with skinstudio and am constantly, daily finding amazing features and things to do. However, the things I do with it are not so much graphical in nature as I'm not that good of an artist, but I do work in a fairly technical job and am constantly looking for way to help make myself more productive/ergonomical/multitasking.
What I'm looking for primarily at this point is this: I have figured out how to add buttons to the titlebar that will run an executable (I work with Visual Studio and the Stardock products are sort of a easy on the brain way to make simple, but very helpful changes - I love it!), but what I want to know is if I can put the same (kind of) button on the status bar (the one on the bottom). I've been poking around at it, but since I use skinstudio because it's laid out in a familiar way to what I'm used to (Visual Studio) and its something simpler to use; I don't want it to get to complex, or spend to much time at guessing. Hence, I'm asking you all if anyone can point me in the right direction so I'm not reinventing the wheel. I'd rather have my quicklaunch buttons on the window I'm working on itself than in a taskbar or launchpad. If anyone's done this already or something similar I would really like to start a dialogue.
Also, and to a lesser degree of urgency, I've been having a bit of truoble with the program "RightClick" Frankly, I love how it customizes the right click menu on the desktop much more than I've seen before through registy hacks or C# applets with the windows api (I just love the whole text based system, and I have replaced my notepad pro with oe!). My question is how do I (or can I) use the tool ("RightClick") to do the same thing with other rightclick menus, for example anytime I click on a folder or on a titlebar of an active window or specific app. Can I do this with RightClick or through Skinstudio? Again this would be so much easier than trying to code it or hack the registry. That's what I like about the stardock products: that I can do these things simpler than I've been doing them with Visual Studio. I'm not interested in packaging or distrubiting since it's not art it's just my little productivity, ergonomic and multitasking quirks.
I have read a bit on the forums and I've learned a couple things, so let me just say 1) I know some people don't like the products, think their difficult or unnecessary, or unnecessarily "heavy" so I don't want to start any flame threads - I just want to connect with some people out there who are also doing productivity customizations more than artistic ones. 2) I've come to realize there are other tools besides Strardock's that may or may not be better, slimmer, stabler, or whatever. I *am* interested in learning about these if I can find out without the Stardock bashing, or any heavy marketing. If it's a tool that will help me in my quest for the most productive UI possible, well I'm a technophile and I do these things out of love of technology not cause I want to tweak or hack something that already works or have a new different pretty suite every week (not that there's anything wrong with that - I *do* do that, btw).
Thank you (in advance) for helping me with my attempt to put a button (to launch an executable or system task) on the status bar, or in tweaking my rightclick menus anywhere else other than the desktop, drop me a line at undead@spookyspirits.net. If you use Visual Studio and want to talk about putting it together with the stardock products (or any of the Microsoft productivity suite, I'm working on a project with OneNote and Visio with integrating the solarwinds.net products right now), I'm just getting started and would love to not re-invent the wheel, drop me a line also. I love to share and will do so.
Thanks,
Joe
