WB for Vista OS?

Will there be a WindowBlinds for the Vista Operating System?

Just curious. What features should we expect if/when this occurs? Is there a target for getting your beta out?

Maybe you've already made an announcement and I've missed it. Sorry if this is the case.

Windowblinds "for Vista" won't be out until Vista itself is out.  [Makes sense]...

why does that make sense? RC1's all over the 'net. for all intents and purposes, Vista IS out.

It's not the final version... How can you make and release software for something which isn't finished... duh

RC1 means it is code locked and code will not change-so yes you can now build for Vista without codes changing.

Me, I'll be glad to wait. With XP SP2 and Object Desktop, I've got plenty to keep me happy as a pig in mud. Couldn't ask for more.

I am sorry to say that RC1 isn't as code locked as you may think.  The build after RC1 contained a number of theme related changes.

The last build also introduced incompatible app blocking and Microsoft managed to block every single WindowBlinds build ever made.  Quite an achievement considering they were only supposed to block WB 3 and WB 4 from installing on Vista!  The latest Vista build 5744 fixes this thankfully.

Yea, Microsoft practive it's own variant of the definition of Beta and RC.

5744 clamied that DesktopX wouldn't be compatible when I upgraded from 5600, but I've seen no issues so far.

For most apps you could probably start developing for Vista on the RC's. But remember how closely WB integrates with the OS.

Well, DUH....

The whole reason that RC1 is out is to MAKE the software and have it ready for when Vista actually goes gold.

That's what Stardock are doing, developing the software before Vista goes live. Changes to the current version of Vista have stopped WB from running, exactly why programs should not be released ahead of time, or to work on RCs.

So, are you saying that WindowBlinds will NOT run on Vista RC2? Admittedly, I'm still running RC1, although I will install RC2 sometime next week. But I haven't even tried to install any Stardock products on Vista since I assumed there would be the expected incompatibility issue.

Stardock has a internal Vista build that they are working on, no release or betas of WB are Vista ready.
Read reply 8 by Neil, lead developer of WB. Even the Vista build they are working on was blocked.

The current released versions of WB are not compatible with Vista RC1, RC2, uncle Tom Cobbley 'n all...

Thank you all for this great discussion on the dangers and virtues of releasing beta on beta operating systems. This, however, is not germane to my original question:

What features should we expect if/when this occurs? Is there a target for getting your beta out?

Possible answers to my question might look like:

a) Possible features we hope to release that take advantage of Vista's ... are ...
What features, as a WB customer, are you looking for in Vista?
c) Our target release will be ... days after Vista goes RTM

Disclaimer: You obviously have no guarantees on any dates, you can only shoot for target dates.

Why did I ask this question? Simply, my OD subscription is up this month and I'm looking for motivating reasons to renew.

I understand a beta version of WB, 5.1,  will be out on OD soon. I have no idea what features it will have, other than older skins will still work.

All I'm looking for is to replace that ugly Vista look with something of my own

I'm already tired of the Vista skins and eagerly awaiting some fresh stardock tweaks that I can use on Vista.
