Hi there friends! Just finished watching tonight's episode of "American Idol."

The theme of tonight's show was "Favorite Movie Songs." The theme kind of threw me off at the start of the show. The contestants would talk about their favorite movie, and then they would sing a song from a different movie. There were a few, "Was that song really in that movie?" moments before I finally figured out what was going on.

The guest judge was Quentin Tarantino. Tarantino came off as pretty "geeky," but he was able to supply a few good comments during the show. (I am interested to see the second part of "Kill Bill" by the way. But since we have a baby now, I think that well have to wait until it comes out on video.)

One of the nicest developments of today's show was that Randy cooled it with his annoying cliches. He still kept 'em coming, but at least he showed some restraint.

The performances:

1. George Huff- His performances up to now have been fantastic. That is why I was surprised with his relatively poor showing tonight. Maybe he wasn't feeling himself. (Grade: C-)

2. Jennifer Hudson- She did a good job with the song. I'd like it more if it weren't a Whitney song. Whitney Houston songs on American Idol are so played-out. (Grade:

3. Jon Peter Lewis- He went to the well again and sang an Elvis song. I don't think that he can get away with it again this season. The performance wasn't all that good either. (Grade: C-)

4. Diana DeGarmo- She sang one of my favorite songs. It didn't turn out so well though. How sad. I always like to hear that song sung well. This performance however reminded me of one of Carmen Rasmussen's poorer ones last season.

I was also a bit surprised at Tarantino's voracity when he went after Diana. I wonder where that came from...

What I really liked about Diana today was her choice for favorite movie. She said that her favorite was "Bowfinger." Thats one of my favorite too. As far as I am concerned, I don't think that I have seen a funnier movie made within the last ten years. (Diana's grade: C)

5. Fantasia Barrino- Fantasia's song was terribly good tonight. It was a unique performance. (Grade: A)

6. Jasmine Trias- Her song wasn't exactly fantastic tonight. She had the rough luck of going on after Fantasia. (Grade:

7. John Stevens- He finally got the chance to sing an old song. Id' probably like tonight's performance a lot better if his previous performances hadn't all been so horseshit. Because of his recent showings, I was sort of rooting-against him.

Tarantino was right-on with his comments about John. He said something like: "I'm not a big fan of yours, but tonight's song was fine."

Simon also had a good comment about John's lack of charisma. In the past I have compared his on-camera image as resembling Lilith Crane. (Grade:
