Problem with the windows 2010 theme

Ok, I'm new here at the forums and also new at using desktop x. I managed to get the "windows professional 2010" one downloaded and working on my computer. I have to say, it will be great if i can get these problems fixed, but they are potentially horrible problems. The main thing that is wrong is that when I open up an application (like itunes or firefox), all of the (i think they are called widgets?) buttons and interact-able features on my desktop stay on top of the application window and I can't get them to go away. So I'm having to temporarily use my old interface until I get this problem fixed. The buttons and other taskbar things are blocking alot of the areas I need to click around.

Also, the thing about widgets. Is there any way I can get the firefox and itunes icon to be the button instead of, say, internet explorer? Also, I have deleted alot of the useless icons and/or links to non-existant programs on my computer that came with the interface. Is there any way I can get new icons and programs to be up with the other buttons on the desktop?

You will have to run DesktopX in Builder Mode to change the options. Load the 2010 Desktop > Look for the rotating X on the middle left of the screen > click this to open the DekstopX Welcome screen > Click the Create button > accept all changes.

Once you are in builder mode, you will be able to change the properties of everything in the Desktop. To start, mark all of those icons and widgets that appear on top of the windows. Exit those programs (i.e. Itunes, Firefox) and right-click on the icon or widget you want > Select properties > Relation tab > look for the "Z-Ordering" menu > Select Desktop Level. Repeat for all other icons, objects, or widgets.

Now to change an Icon's image, you have to make sure your still in Builder Mode...which I hope you are. Find the object or image you want to change and right-click > "States" tab > Appearance tab > under the Appearance tab, make sure image is selected and not text > click the Browse button > find the image you want on your hard drive > Select apply > click ok.

Open the Desktop in the original form (i.e. not your customized one) or re-download it if neccessary. Find the object or icon that does not work and right-click > Properties > General Tab > look for the "Object Type" option, make sure it is stated as a shortcut, if not > Change > menu > shortcut > now click the Browse button under the location option in the General tab > choose the location of the shortcut > click apply > click ok.

Ok, thanks. I'm still kind of working on it. One more question for now: On my old desktop, I had a lot of shortcuts. Is there any way to quickly get the shortcuts with the same icons over to the new desktop? And if there isn't, how can I find the actual icon off the computer, make it a shortcut, list the name of the shortcut, and actually make it a shortcut? And often times, I cannot resize the icon. I'm trying to move/delete some of the default icons that came with it (I can move them, but not resize them). Only when I go to the properties of certain icons will it let me resize the image. Other times I can't ??

Individually? Not really. Quickest would be to hide the desktop icon completely and create one shortcut to the desktop folder.

create a shortcut, then under 'states' 'appearance' browse to the program's exe.

And often times, I cannot resize the icon.

often times, they are not icons but pngs. Check under states, appearance

I can't create a shortcut.. when I try it only sends it to my original desktop, not the windows 2010 one. And so I can't do anything about png files? I tried dl'ing the logos of some of the programs I needed off the internet, photoshopping them to trim and resize them, but it creates a runtime error and corrupts the desktop and I have to start over ? And I can't save the newly photoshopped files as either icon type files or png files, it only lets me save it as a "photoshop file"

Create a shortcut in DesktopX = right click systray icon while in builder mode - New Object = (object type starts as layer) general tab - change = pull down drop down, choose shortcut == new options now appear - desktop is under 'folder shortcut'

I have managed to get everything I want and am still learning some more features. I figured out how to photoshop the icons also. The object dock helped ALOT. Thanks everybody
