Control Panel Icons - Apogee Icon Package

Am using the Apogee Icons (how great are they!) but find I cannot get all the Icons in Control Panel to skin. Have WinXP2 SP2 with WB5 5.00[b] 009 and Icon Packager 3.10.102. The sub package applies correctly to those Control Panel Icons that used to change with earlier versions eg. fonts, Admin Tools and Folder options but not to other things like System, User Acount or Date and Time. The only thing I've altererd was rename "iprepair.dll" because of Explorer.exe crahes with WB5 (see Neil Banfield). If I go to the *.cpl file in Windows\System32 and try to change the icons individually the changes don't stick.

By the way it's worth the dollars for the Apogee icon pack as you end up with 15 differently coloured packages that would have to go with just about any WindowsBlind skin you could find.

Just need to add some info which may assist the Stardock helpers. I've just now realised that none of the Control Panel Icons that actually exist in Windows\System32 (ie. where the *.cpl is) are skinned. The ones that are skinned when one actually opens the Control Panel from the start menu are those icons that are not within the Windows\System32 directory. For those cpls in the Windows directory as above the default icon location is shown as C:\Windows|Systedm32\shell32.dll.0 after applyingIcon Packager. If I browse to say the relevant Apogee icon and apply it, upon the refresh the Icon location is not that one but Stardock\ObfectDock\IconPackager\sig.bin.0 I hope this additional information helps.

Samething here i'm running xp pro sp2 and Iconpackager 3.1 enhanced and using Apogee Icons and the only ones that change are:
1. Administartive Tools
2. Folder Options
3. Fonts
4. Network Connections
5. Portable Media Devices
6. Printers And Faxes
7. Scheduled Task
8. Taskbar and Start Menu

Yes i know that anyday now its due. But the current version has 23 control panel icons of which it is only applying 8 of.

Carl, I'm with the good Captain on this one. The icons are already within the Icon Package and show under the Control Panel Tab in "icons and Cursors" as well as the Control Panel portion of the Preview. They are ready to go but won't.

If you are attempting to change the control panel icons while in "Category View", you will not see any changes due to IconPackager not supporting those changes yet.

IconPackager will currently only change the control panel icons in "Classic View" of the control panel.

The developer has indicated that this may change in future builds.

The Captains screenshot is exactly the same as my control panel, that is, we both only have the same 8 Apogee icons applying to the same Control Panel items. I wonder if my first observation is significant in that these seem to be *.cpl items that are not found in the Windows\System32 directory. I don't think its coincidence that two separate users end up with exactly the same 8 out 23 icons succesfully loading or put another way what are the chances of the same 15 icons not being applied.

I loaded IconPackager and selected the Date and Time Icon in the Control Panel icon list for Apogee. I clicked on Change Icon and selected the Apogee 109 icon and then clicked Apply which changed my Control Panel icon for the Date and Time. After this I went back to IconPackager and again selected the Date and Time Icon and clicked on Change Icon and selected the initial Apogee Icon for this - Apogee 111 and clicked Apply. After this exercise ALL my Control Panel icons that can be changed with the Apogee Control Panel Icons were there.

Don't know why this would make them work but it did.

Would be interesting to see if someone else can duplicate this.

Here is the straight forward - "Start IP 3.10.102 > select Apogee (with control panel option selected) > click "Load" > click "Apply" =

Network set-up Wizard, Security Center, and Wireless Network Set-up Wizard did not apply.

Maybe the update will fix the issue.

Tried Hankers suggestion but to no avail. I guess what's now annoying is that IP won't apply the icons and seems to prevent me from doing so manually. Corky O when you say "Maybe the update will fix the issue" do you mean to Icon Packager or the Icon Pack.

By the way CO have installed the 5.9 Drivers for our X700Pro cards as per the what drivers work thread and things are far more stable than with 5.1X - thanks for the tip.

Corky O when you say "Maybe the update will fix the issue" do you mean to Icon Packager or the Icon Pack.

I meant both.

I believe Stardock is using the Apogee pack to test some of the new functionality of IconPackager - specifically, the "sub-style" feature, and the "control panel" icons.

BTW - I have not renamed the "iprepair.dll" files, so if you have done so, you might try restoring the original names (iprepair.dll, and iprepair64.dll).

I will also leave a link to this thread in the article announcing the release of IP 3.1, so that Developer Bagginz will see it.

Network set-up Wizard, Security Center, and Wireless Network Set-up Wizard did not apply

As a side note, these particular icons that exist in the package and did not apply, do not show in the IconPackager\Cursors and Icons\Control Panel dialog. All other control panel icons that did apply also show in this same dialog.

This would appear to be an access issue between the OS and IconPackager.

Two machines - desktop running XP Pro w/SP2, and notebook running XP Home w/SP2, with the same result.

I have the same trouble here to with the Apogee set and with the NuoveXt icon set. The control panel icons in that one will not change.

Any one help me with Apogee. I get a an error in IconX - directgui.dll file error in the windoes error reporting when I apply this suit. I am also using DesktopX and WB 5. Latest versions of all installed.

I can use the Apogee suite but as soon as i loag IconX Viola - error

I have the same problem with IconX crashing. I submitted a ticket to Stardock support on Wed. (Ticket ID: QYR-887595) but haven't heard back yet.
