Ok for the record I've been an Object Desktop subscriber for YEARS. I use a ton of their products, I subscribe to the gaming network, etc. I've been looking for something to give me a heads up on my system for a long time. Nothing ever really hit the mark tho. Widgets are cool, and some of them are very slick and functional. But nothing gives me the ability to add 'more' to them without diving in and learning how to make my own with DesktopX (which I've spent a little time playing with... but didn't want to have to learn something else just to get system meters and whatnot). I've tried SysMetrix, and DesktopSidebar, etc. I ran across Codename: Dashboard the other day and I'm in love. From the site 'Codename: Dashboard is an application that docks to the side of your screen and acts as a host for interchangeable components. Through these components, you can have access to any information you want on your screen, all the time. A variety of components are available from SNP Software and third-party developers.' So... it's a .NET component and you can build your own controls into the thing (bonus!). They have a decent amount of components out of the box. So far this thing fits the bill for exactly what I want... a unified place to put 'widgets' into... the fact that it's .NET is just that much cooler because I can easily build my own components if I want to. Anyway... just thought I'd share...
