Logon Screen

Getting it to pause....

Ok when you start up your computer, you get your bootscreen, then your logon screen...is there a setting to get it to stop at the logon screen instead of going straight to Windows. Because my OS (XP obviously) with NO skins suites or other installed stops at the logon screen, EVEN IF I HAVE NO PASSWORD SET. But only about half of my Suites with their own logon's will stop, some pop up while XP is loading preferences and go right into Windows. I know one answer is to set a password, but I don't have any need for that, but I still want it to pause and not go straight into windows.

Add another account so you have to select your account to continue to Windows.

There's a way to do it without adding a user account I will never use.....there's got to be a setting somewhere in Windows, because like I said depending on what GUI I have loaded it will do it or not do it.

Auto Logon to Windows XP

You can configure Windows XP to automate the logon process if your computer is not part of a domain.

1.Click Start, click Run, and type control userpasswords2.

2.Clear the Users must enter a username and password to use this computer check box.

3.Click Apply.

4.Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with, and then click OK.

5.Click OK again and you're all done.

Users must enter password is checked on my system, one account no password, does not stop goes right into Windows.
Must use password or setup another account to stop on logon screen. If you add an account, which takes about 30 seconds, control panel, user accounts, unless you logon into it, it is not setup.

I have used hundreds of logons from WC, have never had any stop at logon screen. There is not setting in LogonStudio nor have I seen anything in logon UIFILE to have it stop. Logon needs a reason to stop, which would be a password or multiple accounts.

Hmmmm ghost in the machine then for me. I'm not going to take the time right now to figure out what logons do it, but I have 6 computers in my house 4 laptops, and two desktops....all of them right now set at stock XP settings, ALL of them pause at the logon and require me to click my user icon. My guess is it's in the .ini files of the logon. The actualy script command file, but again I have better things to do than read through it...I do enough programming for work as it is. I just turned on the guest accounts on all my computers and made a transparent icon so it just looks like there's one user.

If you happen to remember one that does stop and one that does not, or come across one of each post the names here so I can test on my system.
As for the ini file, it just basically contains bitmap and text info. Between .ini and UIFILE all the script, settings, are for images, text, text colors, text and image locations. Nothing to tell windows how to work.
With LogonStudio you are just changing the image etc. that is applied, it does not change how XP logs on.
As for default XP settings, reinstall of Windows XP SP2, six weeks ago, I have not touched any logon or user account settings. As I said above one account, auto logs to it, never have to click account, never stops at logon.
The only thing I have done in user accounts is set up a fake password protected account to make a complete looking preview pic when uploading a logon I have made to WC.

Sorry for this big long confusion, none of my skins stop, my basic XP stops because I manually changed it to do so. And NO I will not explain how to do it, it requires a large amount of programming knowledge and the last thing I need is some 16 year old frying daddy's 10,000dollar nasa control center computer that he had to have to impress his buddies. Sounds mean, but I'm not gonna be responsible for what happens when someone who doesn't understand reg entries tries to follow along.

Which by the way, if anyone does understand how to dig around and change "unchangable" perameters of XP, you could theoretically permanently install a suite. You just won't change it often
