How did you find out about Object Desktop?

I was used to customizing my Windows 2000 titlebars, and when I got Windows XP - I was disappointed to find that I was limited to preset colors, and that if I wanted to use more than one color in the titlebar, I had to revert to classic.

Shortly there after, I saw a Japanese exchange student's laptop, with three colors combined in the taskbar (rounded like XP luna theme), and an analog clock on the desktop.

I did a search for customization programs, found WindowBlinds and read about Object Desktop.

I downloaded the shareware version of WindowBlinds > installed it > applied a skin and played with it for about 5 minutes > unloaded WindowBlinds > restored to default Luna to verify all was well > uninstalled WindowBlinds > went to Stardock site and immediately ordered the Network version of Object Desktop > downloaded and installed it > never looked back.....except to recount this tale.

I got Windows XP and found that they had taken out the ability to change the look. Lived with it for a while and finally did a web search and came up with 2 programs Windowblinds and StyleXP. I tried both, dumped StyleXP went to Stardock Site & bought Windowblinds. I believe the process started in December 2001, First Stardock purchase was in January 2002 Registered at WC in April of 2002 and found out about Object Dock. Purchased OD in July of 2002. So it was a 7 month "learning" process for me.

was browsing and looking for something, anything to change the look. ended up at downloaddotcom. stardock had a few items there, went to stardock to check them out, ended up here and started browsing the galleries. went back to stardock and ordered the disc.

I don't have OD yet, but about 3 years ago my girlfriend was told about SD by a friend. She downloaded WB and showed me the Aquarium skin by Pixtudio. I too downloaded WB and went on to purchase a few more programs from SD.
I've been hooked on this ever since.

I found WinCustomize through a link on TweakXP. The next day I purchased ObjectDesktop and have never regretted it. Thats something I can not say about any other program or tool I've purchased for my PC. ObjectDesktop delivered beyond all my expectations.

after starting with StyleXP *.. glad i never actually bought it*, and not liking it eventually came across here and have loved it since! i recommend it to people all the time online

I was using Style XP and was on my way down the road to complain that it wasn't all that they'd cracked it up to be. Anyhow, just moments into my travels, there was this blinding flash ahead of me and I was bowled over by this something or other. At first I was going to get up and have a go at the offender...interrupting my journey like that. However, that didn't happen when I noticed he was this cute little green fella that I kinda liked. He invited me into his place and patched my grazed skin and I was so amazed. It felt like a completely new skin, and the process was painless, like it was sprayed on, rather than applied with instruments that hurt. When I enquired about this amazing stuff, this little green cute fella directed me to a store so I could get me some of my own, and I couldn't be happier.

In other words, I was on the net looking for forums and alternatives to Style XP and somehow arrived at WC, where it became patently obvious that OD was the preferred utility for customising my desktop....thus I purchased it it and made good with the little green fella, by way of a subscription for his efforts.

When I bought my computer (4+ years ago) it came with Windows Me installed I was always trying to make it look different than everyone else's desktop. Then I saw a tiny little article in PC World magazine about WindowBlinds with a nice little screenshot So I went to Stardock's site, and liked what I saw. After a few months of thinking about it, I finally ordered the CD. I thought (and still think) that it was the greatest thing since sliced bread! That was when I started coming to WC, to check out the newest skins to try out. I eventually upgraded my system to XP, and upgraded WB to purchase the full OD Network subscription. I'm constantly reminded of what it's like without customization, when I go to work every day.

About two and a half years ago my friend at work told me about Wincustomize. So I browsed the site, checking out all the great skins. I did research other various ways to customize, but decided that Stardock was the way to go, being that ODNT has all you could ever want to change the look of Windows. I told the wife to get me the CC, because I am going shopping, lol. I bought the ODNT sub, WC sub, Cursor XP plus, OD Plus. Plus the community here also helped me make the decision, I've met and talked with a lot of great people along the way.

Through the shareware version of windowblinds, back in the '98 days. I used it for a while, but the comp I had it on ended up getting fried.

Didn't own a computer for a while after that, but the moment I bought another one, I checked to see if Windowblinds was still around [via search engines] ...which it was, thankfully.

I installed it again, but after a while I needed more customization tools ...so I followed the link Windowblinds provided, which brought me here.

..and the rest they say, ...is history. Now I need my fix daily.

A while ago, somebody sent me a screenshot of a cool looking desktop. Several Google searches later, I discovered it was created using a program called "DesktopX". After some more searching I found my way over to deviantArt, which led me to hear. Browsing this site I found out about WindowBlinds, Sysmetrix, OD, and many other great programs. It was only last year I purchased the ODNT package (I got tired of the nag screens ). I've been a customizing junkie since day one!

Windowblinds 0.5 if memory serves...that got me on the newsgroups and that's where I found out about ODNT...I think

about two weeks ago a friend of mine and i where talking about computers and graphics and stuff like that and he said... "i came across this site that has diferent looks than XP cames with and he said it was wincustomizing or something. my wife was gone for the week end and i was feeling kind of lonely and so, i went to the net to pass the time. after i had run out of things to look for i remembered what my friend had said about changeing the look of the GUI and started searching untill i found this wonderful place and quickly started the download for windowblinds. i used a few of the skins that came with the program and thought it would be cool to make one for my self and downloded skinstudio. while looking for ways to do things with the program i started a topic in the forums to say how much i liked this place "awsume place for a graphics pro" made a few budies very quickly and got hooked on how EASY it is to make a windowblind thanks to the great programs avialable here at stardock. posted my first windowblind and it has gone over well, better than i expected anyway! thanks for the support people! when my wife came home i got the card from her and purchased object desktop and a subscription monday night! some one said i should be careful so i don't get hooked on this and someone else said it's to late, he allready took the pill. and yes i can say that after ten days of doing this DRUG! i am most definatly hooked on it and will be here for a long time getting what is refered to as "my fix" my wife alredy wonders why i spend so much time at the computer and thinks i'm haveing an online afair! IF SHE ONLY KNEW JUST HOW CORRECT SHE IS!

i just noticed how long this is! i think i've explaned it well enough but, its just so fresh in my mind that it just apilled out onto the keyboard waiting for the coffee to get done so i can have my first cup!

About 3.5 or 4 years ago while surfing, I stumbled accross Wincustomize. I didnt know anything about skinning, but the site immediadley intriged me. I was facinated by windowblinds and the fact basically all of a PC's GUI can be altered to look like pretty much anything one desired. I hung around on the forums for a while and got to know a few of the regulars and I learned a few things. I then found out that a friend of mine had Windowblinds (a shareware version I think). When I was actually able to see the blinds applied, I was HOOKED!! I purchased OD for myself, then I discoveed the fantastic array of other neat programs packaged with it. My facination however, went beyond just downloading and using the skins, I wanted to contribute and become part of the WC community. I then purchased a WC subsription and then tried my hand at skinning WB's. There was a short time this year that both my subscriptions to OD and WC had lapsed (due to financial problems) but other than that, I have been faithfully subscribing to both and intend to continue doing so. I think Stardock products are GREAT and WC is a GREAT site/community!

I tried Windowblinds several years ago, and to be honest, I wasn't really impressed.  However I was browsing download.com and found that Windowblinds was updated so I tried it again.  It was great.  I ran the shareware version for a while until I decided to buy the full version. 

I had also tried out DesktopX and didn't care for it, but after another update it impressed me also.  After that I purchased a full OD subscription, have renewed since, and am very happy.
