Password Managers
Password Managers
If you are anything like me you have many site logins,
software serials, game serials, and passwords to keep track of. I used to
keep them all in separate text files, but it wasn't secure and it wasn't
organized. I just had too many to keep track of. That's when I
decided it time for some type of password manager. I searched and found
several that might do the job. The two below are the best I have found,
and they are both free.
Access Manager
Access Manager from Citi-Software is a simple and easy to
use password manager for Windows. The interface is very simple with a
single list for all your passwords, logins, etc. When you select an entry,
it will display it's username, password, notes, and more. Access Manager
can also generate passwords for those who have a hard time coming up with
strong passwords. You are also able to link your passwords to a file,
folder, program, or web link. I found Access Manger to be simple to use,
but there is not much organization available. It also had a problem with
Windowblinds, so I had to exclude this program in the WB preferences so I could
see the menus. Overall it's a simple password manager that gets the job
done.
A
Professional version is available that offers more advance features.

Keepass Password Safe
Keepass is a free and open-source password manager that
let's you store your information in a database. You can secure Keepass by
a master password or a key-disk. Keepass allows you to have groups that
you can organize for almost any type of password management. I made a
group then added sub-groups for each category such as website logins, software
serials, and network configurations. It also offers a search feature so
you can find any entry fast. I found Keepass also simple to use, and it
was very easy to organize multiple categories of information. You can also
import and export your password to several different formats. Overall I
have to recommend Keepass for all your password and information management
needs.
Keepass is also available for Linux and OS X.
