ok.... i need help real fast!

ok i know that all of u guys are annoyed that i keep on making a new article almost everyday but hopefully this is the last time...

ok here it goes....there's something wrong with my computer.

i try to click on a link on a website but it won't open. Even if i turned off pop-up blocker. i tried going to system restore but when i go to it, all i see is a white screen where the system restore is supposted to be. Also i downloaded a msn screen saver a couple of days ago and now that something is wrong with my computer... it can't work to.

i think this is all caused by one problem.

Do u guys ever had a problem like this...or know what to do? Because the last thing i can do is go to my system recovery in my computer and restore the whole thing again...which i don't what to do cause i have a lot of wincustomize files, important files, and more.

NOTE: There was somethings that happened before this problem came...


1:i installed three widgets to my computer... one is a world time clock, two is the weather, and three is the hard drive meter.

2: My sisters were watching music videos and when they were watching... they said that when they click on a music video to watch, it would just show the same page over and over again.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

I saw this problem posted a while back in regards to IconPackager. Do you have IPkgr? if so, which version?

maybe..but a couple of people had posted that when IP acted up due to the repair dll , system restore wasn't working and/or was blank... so I thought I'd start with it.

bash...how are you getting updates ? 2002....

I dumped Nortons the minute my subscription ran out. You can get AVG anti-virus for free. It updates just about daily and I've had only 2 trojans in 2 years..both were grabbed by AVG and deleted before I could blink..

u see...i've had Nortron Antivirus for three years and usually, my computer would have a problem which would leave me no chose but to reinstall windows. so if i reinstall windows, i renew my subscription.

Since Yrag helped me out, i don't have to reinstall windows again (which would renew my subscription).

by the way i have only til 2-13-05....then i'll buy Nortron Antivirus 2006 (that is if nothing happens to my computer from now til then).

I had no trouble with 2003, when I updated (errr tried) to 2005 - After 5 days of it not installing properly and going thru all the 'help' bulletins, and using 3-4 of their removal tools, and editing and re-editing the registry (per their instructions) I gave up and went with Trend Micro = only to find out later all windows updates for 2 months failed because the uninstallation on Norton 2003 (done by the 2005 disk) destroyed the Background Intelligent Transfer Service which W.U. uses. Had to re-install SP2 to fix it.

Currently, users of Norton 2002, 2003, and 2004 products can purchase subscription updates for that product without needing to upgrade to a newer version.

Symantec is stating that users of the above mentioned versions need to decide on any subscription renewals this year - which would suggest that beginning next year, one would need to upgrade due to subscription updates no longer being available for those products.

I know that the 2003 versions work reasonably well with current softwares, though the resource use in the background has a noticable impact on performance.

Smae thing happen to me. I also went with Trend Micro. No problems since.........

2005 looks to be fully supported next year - allowing either a subscription update, which enables virus definition updates, firewall rule updates, etc. - but keeps the same software installed.

Or, of course upgrades to the new 2006 programs.

My concern is the additional background activities of these programs reducing performance, while not adding much in the way of processes that would actually be needed.

Even the new Zone Alarm 6 has added real-time spyware control, which is slowing the loading of programs in it's early releases.

It is amazing to me (in a negative way) that the people who write viruses, worms, malware, etc. are having an impact on our machines by virtue of having to install programs which both offer security, and slow performance by running in a way that addresses all avenues of attack.

I can say that the combination of (1) AVG free version Anti-Virus program, (2) Zone Alarm 5.5 firewall (without real-time spyware control), (3) Ad-Aware, and (4) Spybot - allow the protection of a home machine while also "not" degrading performance.

It is a relief that currently - for the price of Zone Alarm 5 (if you can find it in a local store, or on the net somewhere) - you can protect your computer with a sense of security.

Note - you could also go with ZA 6, and not enable the real-time spyware control.

I believe the virus updates continue.. but program updates... and support do not... 2 yrs after a new version comes out. At least that's what I got outta Symantec's site.
