p.s. interstingly, one of my fellas put the installation files on 3 CDs. he started the install, rebooted, everything was okay. then when the installation was 30% done (~) it said "the installation cannot continue. please insert valid Windows Vista CD/DVD". oh wow, he poped in the 2nd CD and went all the way to 70% then a 3rd CD and it installed gracefully.
now i'm talking about Beta 1, of course. so it is possible to install with CDs, but with a high risk due.
still standing on my opinion, even though this post is outdated - Vista Installation should be taking place with a DVD.

If you are a valid beta tester and are supposed to have Vista, you can request a dvd be sent to you instead of downloading it.

Does anyone know exactly when Vista Beta 2 is to be released? I'm on the waiting list for it via Microsoft.

It is also available to Technet Plus subscribers, thats how I have it.

And for the record, I install it on a VMWare Workstation and I use Alcohol 120% as my DVD emulator.

I installed Vista RC1 this way. I used MagicISO Maker to extract the Vista iso image/file to a partiton that I had made on an external usb 2.0 hard drive. Then, I clicked on the Vista "start.exe" icon on the external hard drive where I had extracted the iso file to and it started installing from the external drive to my laptop flawlessly.

All you need to do is download and install magiciso
Right click on the vista RC1 iso file
Then click on MagicISO ---> "extract to..."
"extract to..." wherever you like
click on "start.exe" icon and you're ready to go
