Need to remove SDMCP.exe from safe mode

Hello,

I have problem with Explorer 6.0. It is corrupted or at least thinks it is. I have C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock\SDMCP.exe as a running startup process in safe mode. I need to get rid of it as a part of troubleshoot my problem. Is that program Stardock Central? If so, would removing it affect my Object Desktop programs? Does it even need to be running in the background of safe mode?

You can disable sdmcp.exe via the Tools > Settings > deselect MCP options in Stardock Central.

If you are running DesktopX and/or ObjectDock with a SystemTray function dock, you will need sdmcp.exe running.

I run WindowBlinds, IconPackager, and ObjectDock Plus (no system tray function dock) and have sdmcp.exe disabled - no issues have presented themselves.

If things start getting weird with your Stardock software, you may want to re-enable MCP options.

SDMCP shouldnt be part of any problem other then Stardock proggies.

Thanks for the info. I just need to go through a bunch of troubleshooting steps to figure out what's gone wrong. I think a parasitic DLL from software distributed by my ISP did some minor damage which is why it has taken me several weeks to know that Explorer files have been compromised. During the same time period Explorer began having application hangs and behaving sluggishly, the only significant additions I was adding were weekly updates to Object Desktop programs. Though I feel that was a coincidence and not a cause.

I never knew about the Tools>Settings so everything was default. I don't use a SystemTray function dock so I disabled MCP. I'll take this opportunity to freshly uninstall/install my Object Desktop programs. IconX quite working after one update a few weeks ago anyway.

I am just trying to determine now if I need to reinstall Explorer or do a repair/upgrade of XP.

Again thanks for the quick responses. They have been very helpful. I didnot want to have to remove my widgets, objects, or WindowBlind.
