K. So really, DX is corrupting the registry entries for vbscript.dll. See my post below from another thread on IconPackager.

For me this is DEFINITELY a DX issue. Maybe it's in other programs as well. Here's my story. I first noticed the problem because Windows Media Player would not load. ("An internal application error occured.") Then I noticed that Help and Support wouldn't load and that the search dialog box just had the stupid little mutt at the bottom. Also, Windows Update wouldn't load. I found the article in the MS KB about "Several Dialog Boxes are Blank" which fit the bill exactly.

I ran the two regserv commands that it lists and things work like a charm, UNTIL I REBOOT. So, I snagged a registry tracker and found that "DXWidget.exe" is running a "SetValue" for vbscript.dll several times while I boot. Shortly there after, DVWidget does an "OpenKey" query and it can't find vbscript.dll. Appearently nothing else can find vbscript.dll either.
I'm going to uninstall DX and IconPackager and see if that fixes the issue.
Later...
P.S. Here are the entries I'm talking about for the programming types.
568330: DXWidget.exe:3556 SetValue HKCR\CLSID\{B54F3741-5B07-11CF-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}\InprocServer32\(Default) SUCCESS "c:\windows\system32\vbscript.dll"

So, I uninstalled DX, re-registered the .dll and rebooted. No problems on reboot. Search came up find, media player works, windows update will run, etc. I rebooted about half a dozen more times, no issue. So, I reinstalled DX. I did not run it after install, then rebooted. Login... search dead, windows media player has an internal issue, windows update won't load, help and support won't load... you get the idea.
I tested on my laptop and my desktop. Exact same results. Both machines are running XP-Pro SP2, current WindowBlinds, DX, IconPackager, and Object Dock Plus. I have several widgets loading on startup with both.
